RockyIII Posted February 5, 2012 Share #81 Posted February 5, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) If an M10 is announced at Photokina this year, it will probably be first quarter of 2013 before we start seeing them. Maybe Rick will do another map like he did for the M9. Rocky

lars_bergquist Posted February 5, 2012 Share #82 Posted February 5, 2012 Digital Ms are the loudest and slowest Ms ever made. Hard to believe that they may remain so very long. No! We want louder and slower! And I trust we will get them. The old man from the Age of the Nikon F
fotolebrocq Posted February 5, 2012 Share #83 Posted February 5, 2012 It all rather depends on what the M10 will be. To my mind, the M9 is pretty much perfect as it is. In a digital age, consumers expect real advancement in new product releases. Look at the scorn that a new 911 produces in much of the motoring press. People expect iPhone levels of re-engineering, rather than small changes that Leica traditionally provide with their M releases. The controversy over EVF is really quite laughable to my mind. I'm with John on this - of all the cameras I have owned the M9 is the most satisfying - I just don't need anything better. For me, as long as Leica offer a service, repair and upgrade facility, I'm happy. However, if Leica have a better sensor and processor chip in the pipeline for the M, the perfect solution for me would be an upgrade path for the current M9 Tony

swamiji Posted February 5, 2012 Share #85 Posted February 5, 2012 My Guess is 2013 or more likely 2014 Photokina, as the M9 is still selling strong. I think 2012 Photokina will have a S3 and an Evil as their new offering. Leica also has to get there new Lenses out as well, for both the M and S systems (rumored 50 cron ASPH, S zoom and others), and provide Lenses for the new "E" system... This list of new products for this Photokina, is too long for such a small company, especially as they are trying to ramp up production of current offerings to meet demand. rosuna Posted February 5, 2012 Share #86 Posted February 5, 2012 I would like to see a new classical rangefinder model. Let's call it M10. I am waiting for it.

No, the M9 is as perfect as it is. ____________ FrankR

luigi bertolotti Posted February 5, 2012 Share #89 Posted February 5, 2012 I tend to agree with Ikarus... EVIL can be their priority, now... the market seems hot about, the price won't be stellar... the lens department will have new tasks to prove its value; the EVIL Leica can be the "maker of 2013 revenues" while a M10 announced this year imho would provide marginal or no growth, give the still very good appeal of M9 at traditionale (and some new) customers. No reason, for a company no big, to make the efforts of a double introduction in 2012.

No reason, for a company no big, to make the efforts of a double introduction in 2012. Makes a lot of sense, and I hope you're right. I'd hate to see them over-stretch themselves with two major new product lines and find quality and service and supply all suffer. I would also love to see longer product cycles established as a reliable fact, which I think would encourage sales more than frequent new product launches. lct Posted February 5, 2012 Share #91 Posted February 5, 2012 Would be good for my wallet at least. I could be tempted to try a Fuji for low light shootings eventually.

Paul Reading Posted February 5, 2012 Share #93 Posted February 5, 2012 I don't get it why are so many obsessed with an M10? What do they expect to get that they aren't getting fro the M9? As soon as Leica brings out an M10 some clown will say they are waiting for the M11 to come out... Personally, I cannot justify the cost of an M9. I really believe that the most influential aspect of any photograph is the man behind the camera and not the camera itself. However, I am still using a Digilux 2 and can't wait for a replacement. I refuse to buy a Fuji because I know that Leica will bring out a mirror less alternative and I want to see what they have on offer. I suspect that my next camera will be my last so I want to make a good choice.
rosuna Posted February 5, 2012 Share #94 Posted February 5, 2012 I don't get it why are so many obsessed with an M10? What do they expect to get that they aren't getting fro the M9? As soon as Leica brings out an M10 some clown will say they are waiting for the M11 to come out... I never liked the M9. I have the M8 and many of its shortcomings are in the M9 as well. I expect many essential improvements, and they have been discussed here many times.
mjh Posted February 5, 2012 Share #95 Posted February 5, 2012 In some ways the M9 is a souped-up M8. While its electronics is improved so it can handle the increased thoughput required by a higher resolution sensor, it still ows a lot to the M8 legacy. Six years after the introduction of the M8 a redesign from the ground up would be long overdue.
Paul J Posted February 5, 2012 Author Share #96 Posted February 5, 2012 Now I have an M9 and am completely astounded with it. I have no interest in the M10. I started this post as I was under the impression that Photokina was in February and that a new model was imminent. If it were a case of waiting only a couple weeks then I would have been interested in waiting for the new one. Now I have one I don't possibly see what the M10 could give me that the M9 doesn't already. All the things I thought I might want - like Liveview, I could now care less for now as the rangefinder manual focus is a doddle and I love the control I have over it. Something that is completely unexpected, I really thought it would hinder my photography to a degree, that there would be a learning curve and missed shots but I've found the contrary to be the case and in actual fact I thikn it has and will improve my photography and the experience of taking the photos. stunsworth Posted February 5, 2012 Share #97 Posted February 5, 2012 Now I have one I don't possibly see what the M10 could give me that the M9 doesn't already No offence intended, but that's why companies should employ great designers and not focus groups. I'd rather see someone show their design - evan if it isn't something I subsequently don't personally want - than be presented with a piece of collective mediocrity. pico Posted February 5, 2012 Share #98 Posted February 5, 2012 I don't get it why are so many obsessed with an M10? What do they expect to get that they aren't getting fro the M9? As soon as Leica brings out an M10 some clown will say they are waiting for the M11 to come out... I'm sure you are correct. All that would make me happier is an M9 with LED framelines, and only the lines for the mounted lens with the option to preview other frames. Also a jack for an external power supply, and a standard PC flash connector, possibly in the left side as in the Canon 7, and a variable viewfinder diopter like the early Leicas had, and a faster processor. [...] I refuse to buy a Fuji because I know that Leica will bring out a mirror less alternative and I want to see what they have on offer. I suspect that my next camera will be my last so I want to make a good choice. There are a few approaches to mirror-less. The first is what Leica has always had, but the electronic viewfinders, in my experience, are just bad. Low resolution, and when they compensate for bright light the finder gets too dark and disturbs transition from eyeview to the camera's finder - and colors dull. Maybe I use a lousy product. Dunno. . -- Pico - the not-so-old man from Super Technika days with external finder and rangefinder with Focus Spot! (Now, there's an idea!)
ockie50 Posted February 5, 2012 Share #99 Posted February 5, 2012 I will stick my neck out and suggest - NEVER !! It has to do with numbers. Leica has come full circle now with M1, M2, M3 .... M9! It is not good from a model designation point of view to go higher than to one digit. Wouldn't it be strange to respond to the question - Which M-Leica do you use? I use the M17..... No M9 will be the last digital M with current design. Instead Leica will do what Canon did with EOS-1. Introduce 9.2, 9.3 etc.upgrades with better sensor, screen, ISO performande, buffer time etc. However, the "shell" designs will remain the same... This IMHO. Anyone with me?
