Andykcole Posted January 22, 2012 Share #1 Posted January 22, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I wonder if anyone has suffered the terrible faults found on both my S2 Bodies.. I will list the occurences. 1 cracked Sensor filter 2 Battery stuck in Body 3 OLED display blank 4 Blackout material flaking onto Prism 5 Battery stuck in Multigrip 6 Multigrip not fitting to Body needing replacing. 7 S180 Lens front I/D Ring falling off 8 Multigrip non functioning control buttons. I have sent one back twice and the other three times and still awaiting the return of one. This is clearly the fault of the so called Quality Control and I am fast loosing confidence with them. Has anyone else encountered any problems ?? a copy of complaint letter below... I will keep you all updated as to their reply (if any) PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS THE 3rd TIME YOU HAVE HAD THIS S2 BODY BACK FOR REPAIR.. I ALSO HAD MY OTHER S2 BODY 3801*** SENT BACK TWICE PLEASE CHECK YOUR RECORDS..... I FEEL THAT AS A CUSTOMER WHO HAS SPENT A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF MONEY WITH LEICA M9 AND S2 KITS THE PROBLEMS I KEEP GETTING ARE NOW QUITE BEYOND REASON I WOULD EXPECT AT THE VERY LEAST A COMPLETELY NEW BODY REPLACEMENT IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO RETURN THIS ONE IN A1 WORKING CONDITION I WILL OTHERWISE REQUEST A REFUND ON THIS S2 BODY THAT IS NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE. I THINK THAT MY TOLERANCE HAS BEEN GOOD SO FAR BUT HOW MUCH DO YOU EXPECT A CUSTOMER TO PUT UP WITH CONSTANT FAULTS WITH CAMERAS THAT COST A FORTUNE. I EXPECT A REPLY FROM A SENIOR MEMBER OF YOUR EXECUTIVE TEAM AT YOU HQ IN SOLMS TO ADDRESS MY CONCERNS YOURS SINCERELY ANDREW K COLE.

wattsy Posted January 22, 2012 Share #2 Posted January 22, 2012 A very sorry record indeed. How responsive have they been at Client Care in Mayfair?
vintola Posted January 22, 2012 Share #3 Posted January 22, 2012 I have been contemplating buying S2 this year, but this post gives me second thoughts. I have found also earlier several posts about S2 failures. How common these are? - vintola -
arminw Posted January 22, 2012 Share #4 Posted January 22, 2012 When I bought my S2 last year , It had to be replaced twice because of a sensor problem. Although I was a bit disappointed to learn a product like this would find its way to the end user with a fault , Leica did replace it within days and without any questions . I now have a perfectly working S2 ,and I am very happy ....
Andykcole Posted January 22, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted January 22, 2012 Hi Ian No problem with Mayfair or my suppliers who are a pleasure to meet, Solms also have replaced or repaired quickly My grievance is with the seemingly shoddy quality of inspection.. I had no problems with my H3D-ii Hasselblads and feel somewhat peeved that I ditched them in favour of the S2 system which on paper is far more convenient but in practice is disappointing...so far. Guest #12 Posted January 22, 2012 Share #6 Posted January 22, 2012 reports of 1, 2, and 5 at least, sticky aperture blades, and auto-focus problems...but they don't seem to be that common. (?)
albertknappmd Posted January 23, 2012 Share #7 Posted January 23, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have had my S2 for about 18 months and been all over the world with it...Thank G-d no problems! The interesting thing is that there have been so few complaints for such a complicated product.... You should demand a NEW S2. You have earned it!!!! stephan_w Posted January 23, 2012 Share #8 Posted January 23, 2012 I have my S2 only for 2 months, but 1 cracked Sensor filter (thankfully not) 2 Battery stuck in Body (nope) 3 OLED display blank (nope) 4 Blackout material flaking onto Prism (yes, already when delivered, but just one flake) 5 Battery stuck in Multigrip (nope) 6 Multigrip not fitting to Body needing replacing. (fits not easily) 7 S180 Lens front I/D Ring falling off (loose - do I have to be scared about?) 8 Multigrip non functioning control buttons. (nope)
Andykcole Posted January 23, 2012 Author Share #9 Posted January 23, 2012 Hi Stephen I would get the I/D Ring checked out in case you lose it.. the Ring only covers the service screws but it should not be at all loose.. it can be removed but not so easily. the Prism blackout should not flake at all but are you sure it's not on the focus screen ?? at £20.000 a throw we should not expect this... tom0511 Posted January 23, 2012 Share #11 Posted January 23, 2012 Hi, I have had my S2 and 4 lenses for nearly 1 year. The only problem I have experienced was the OLED display being not as bright and it was replaced for free.
