roylance Posted January 17, 2012 Share #1 Posted January 17, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) My M8 is no longer showing the shutter speed metering triangles, the frame lines are there. Anyone know a fix?
Advertisement Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Hi roylance, Take a look here M8 not showing the shutter speed metering. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
hoppyman Posted January 17, 2012 Share #2 Posted January 17, 2012 The frame lines do not need any power at all and will always be visible. They are part of the optical rangefinder and viewfinder system. The exposure indications are part of a tiny LED display that is projected into the viewfinder. Does the camera turn on? You may just have a flat battery or power problem?
jaapv Posted January 17, 2012 Share #3 Posted January 17, 2012 Take it off the B setting? I know it sounds daft - but it has happened to me....
efix Posted January 17, 2012 Share #4 Posted January 17, 2012 Take it off the B setting? I know it sounds daft - but it has happened to me.... I'm relieved to learn that I'm not the only idiot who doesn't notice when his shutter speed dial is on "B" and wonders why there is not shutter speed indication in the viewfinder ... You may just have a flat battery or power problem? The camera turns on and I see no battery problem. I just got it back from Leica NJ where they adjusted the shutter release, checked the meter system and checked for good working order.
roylance Posted January 17, 2012 Author Share #6 Posted January 17, 2012 Take it off the B setting? I know it sounds daft - but it has happened to me.... Oh, if it were that simple, I have moved it to and off the B. All seems to be in good working order except the LED metering display.
jaapv Posted January 17, 2012 Share #7 Posted January 17, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) It is most likely that the connector of the LEDs worked itself loose. As such that would be quite a simple repair. Remove top plate and plug it in again. If you are near Leica NJ you might ask them for a fix-whilst-you-wait. Of course, if the fault is more complicated, that would not be possible. Edit:I see: Santa Fe - I think I am closer to NJ:(

andybarton Posted January 17, 2012 Share #9 Posted January 17, 2012 If you have to ask, don't even think about it. Leave it to Leica.

jaapv Posted January 18, 2012 Share #13 Posted January 18, 2012 It is not too difficult to remove the top, but there are flex connectors that need to be disconnected carefully, and reconnected on assembly.

roylance Posted January 18, 2012 Author Share #15 Posted January 18, 2012 It is going back to Leica NJ next week, fingers crossed with a promised short turn around time.
roylance Posted February 2, 2012 Author Share #16 Posted February 2, 2012 Just got the M8 back from NJ. Problem was a Flex Board, Leica NJ paid for shipping both ways because they did not catch the problem the first time around. Usually NJ is 3-4 weeks turn around time, this time it as one week.
