larsv Posted January 17, 2012 Share #21  Posted January 17, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Interestingly my eyes are well outside the range of diopter correction using the standard range (I have -6½ ® & -7 (L)). At least if I understand correctly the range is -3 to +3? Also, I think I would find removing my specs to use the camera quite irritating. Walking into a ditch or a lamp post is more painful than having to use glasses and a rangefinder:D  EDIT: @Andy, we all knew that Nikon's solution would be "slightly more ungainly" & with even more possibilities.  Isn't it +4 - -/-5? Advertisement Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Hi larsv, Take a look here With a strange device. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
spylaw4 Posted January 17, 2012 Share #22 Â Posted January 17, 2012 Isn't it +4 - -/-5? Â Leica supply +3 to -3 in 0.5 dioptre steps but no +/- 2.5.
jaapv Posted January 17, 2012 Author Share #23 Â Posted January 17, 2012 The half-steps are not on the wheel. I suppose one interpolates from to equally good values. It runs from +4 to -5 in whole values.
Michael Geschlecht Posted January 18, 2012 Share #24 Â Posted January 18, 2012 Hello Everybody, Â & right in the middle of those #'s is the -0.5 which the range/viewfinder is built to. Â Nifty. Â Best Regards, Â Michael
jaapv Posted January 18, 2012 Author Share #25 Â Posted January 18, 2012 No, that is a dioptreless hole.
Michael Geschlecht Posted January 18, 2012 Share #26 Â Posted January 18, 2012 Hello Jaap, Â Thank you. I was speaking mathematically. Â An empty space is both easier to keep clean & less expensive to have than a lens w/ both sides plane/parallel. Â btw: I thought you said there were no 1/2 diopters on this wheel? Â Are the lenses that are there coated? Â Best Regards, Â Michael
luigi bertolotti Posted January 18, 2012 Share #27 Â Posted January 18, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Fine find !!! One of the accessories really uncommon, being for dealers and not for users... I have the vague remembrance to have seen (in some book) an older version of the same device... (for LTMs ?)... maybe more retro styled (metal ?) and, by memory, with less lenses.

tobey bilek Posted January 18, 2012 Share #29 Â Posted January 18, 2012 Dealers should have them, then rent sell or allow to borrow them to customers who temporarily need them.
jaapv Posted January 18, 2012 Author Share #30 Â Posted January 18, 2012 Very few dealers have them, and when do have they tend to get lost. Actually, I doubt that they are still in production. It is very hard to date them, this one, by the plastic, appears to be from the fifties or sixties. I suspect the metal one Luigi mentions is pre-M. I must do some more research, or maybe an expert (JC or Pecole??) can chime in. I'll put it in the historical forum.
delander †Posted January 18, 2012 Share #31  Posted January 18, 2012 Red Dot still seems to have one or is that the one that you bought Jaap?  Jeff
jaapv Posted January 18, 2012 Author Share #32 Â Posted January 18, 2012 Yes I got it at Red Dot, a few days ago. They probably haven't updated their site yet.
spylaw4 Posted January 18, 2012 Share #33 Â Posted January 18, 2012 Our site is updated pretty well as soon as an item is sold! If it's still there it's because we have at least one more!

billib Posted January 18, 2012 Share #36 Â Posted January 18, 2012 Just ordered it from RED DOT. Not sure if I'll get it. Still in the process of a Bank Transfer. Â Thats weird that they don't accept credit cards or PayPal from US customers.
jaapv Posted January 19, 2012 Author Share #37 Â Posted January 19, 2012 Nor from any other foreign country. They probably have had some hassle. But you can use bank transfer with confidence. They are a highly regarded shop.
billib Posted January 19, 2012 Share #38 Â Posted January 19, 2012 Yah jaapv, I trust everything. It would just be more convenient to have PayPal as an option. Their Bank Transfer system is fast and easy.
Michael Geschlecht Posted January 19, 2012 Share #39 Â Posted January 19, 2012 Hello Everybody, Â W/ the range/viewfinder being -0.5 & the individual diopters -4 to +5 that means you could know the corrected net diopter necessary from -4.5 to + 4.5 in whole diopter increments measured @ the 1/2 diopter. Â I wonder how we do the other increments for which they make specific lenses? I doubt Leitz would build such a precise whole diopter measuring system based on the 1/2 diopter & then leave the remaining net full diopters to interpolation. Very un-Leitz like. Â What is Leitz like is some simple means to equally precisely measure the net whole diopters. Most likely either hidden or right in front of us & we don't see it. Â Like a self timer release button on an M which can't be seen until you wind the self timer. Â Best Regards, Â Michael
