Not just TIHIS (didn't saw for sale)... but I supposed that, being the Elmar 90 common in most of its variations, you probably had spotted one with something unusual... :)

Which is its s/n ? My item of the same version (719.xxx) is of course single scale, so as all the others, including the BM E39 : only the 3 elements has the double scale.

Hello Everybody,

Lager shows dual scale Screw Mount 1822869, E39, 1958 - 1963 in Illustrated Guide II & dual scale Bayonet Mount 1829673, E39, 1961 in Illustrated Guide III. Both 4 element w/ 4 element bodies. Both distance scales are engraved in the style of the later 3 element design. Not the mix of "feet" in earlier style & "meters" w/ the later spacing of Jean Claude's.

Best Regards,

Michael

Yes... and that makes JC item an oddity... I even wonder if it can be a later modification made at the factory in the occasion of a service... or some mix of components (was the focusing mount of the Elmar 90 provided as a single component, being the lens unit also sold by itself, like in the 135s ? I don't remember...)

Luigi, the first black baffle in the mount is hand engraved 90 wsw St and the last (same) 3 digit of the s/n. What I know and why I was looking for is that very few were made.

The diafragm blades look like unused (as the rest of the lens)

This one is coming from overocean.

Hello Gunnar,

The lens on the left is unusual because it is an early lens - batch from 1957 - to have the actual focal length engraved on the mount: 90.0mm. I'm not sure when this type of engraving began. Perhaps Jean Claude, Luigi or Pierre might know. I don't recall seeing many engravings of the actual focal length before 1959 or so.

Are the actual focal length &/or serial # or part of the serial # also someplace inside on the detachable lens head &/or the focussing mount? It is possible the lens head was purcased w/o a mount earlier for a Visoflex & a mount fitted later. Not uncommon.

Best Regards,

Michael

Me too have JUST noticed the same detail... :) : I agree that it is probably uncommon on a lens of that age ... my item that I posted above is froma batch from previous year (1956... my age... ) but lacks it, not surprisingly.

btw... seeing items like JC and Gunnars', I always think that my series of 7 Elmars 90 has a long way to be decently "complete"... :D

You mean the 00 ?

The earlier I have is from 1959 a 90 / 2. 8 Elmarit SM

Dati da fare Luigi ...:)

Now the the Double Scale range is not to be considered as the last version of the lens, they seems to be issued from time to time; I have an M version of the 3 element in DS range which is s/n 1 123 xxx and a SM in m. which is s/n 1 125 xxx ....

I don't have any detail to add, just a note about figures : 1956, you say Luigi, really?, only 22 years younger than me! You lucky boy!!:)

...and yet another note about figures, Luigi. You say seven Elmar 4/90? believe me or not, I had a total of 43 in the Fontenelle Collection, 25 of which - at least - were different. The only "collective" picture I have is this one, published in the 4th issue of my Newsletter in 1980. Just hoping it will help you maintaining your collector's "appetite" (my wife calls that "mental illness"...question of viewfinder!):D
