I have no complaints about my Minolta Rokkor 40mm f2.

Which at risk of starting arguments in lens lovers land: is the same lens as the Summicron Forty, but somehow isn't. ;)

I spent the difference in price on a kewl bag and more uv/ir filters for my M8.

I'm actually quite enjoying the cheap (Leica CL lens) 40mm f/2 summicron on my M8!

Leica gave Minolta the formula for the 40/2. Minolta substituted a less expensive glass for one element.

Howard: in utter sincerity, where did you get that info? I want to read about it myself! I'm a history buff and a curious fellow.

Seems you are heading for a similar path I had taken a couple of month ago: M8 with 28 Summicron. Wonderful combination. From film days I still have a 35 V4 Summicron. It is really nice on M8 as well, especially for B&W work. However I prefer a slightly wider FOV, so the 28 is more versatile and the perfect focal length for me on M8.

Yes, the 28 Summicron is expensive. But for me it made sense to put money on an exquisite lens of my favorite focal length. Will not part from this lens.

Enjoy your M8.
