gdbale Posted December 3, 2011 Share #1 Posted December 3, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm sure this has been asked before but didn't come up with much upon searching. I was wondering what the maximum size (generally speaking) that is appropriate to print with the m8. Also, as I haven't ordered enlargement prints before I was wondering if anyone could recommended any websites?
Advertisement Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Hi gdbale, Take a look here M8 enlargement prints. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted December 3, 2011 Share #2 Posted December 3, 2011 A lot depends on the viewing distance, but for what it's worth I've made A2 prints that look fine. That's with the original interpolated to get the width and height @ 300 dpi or so.
jaapv Posted December 3, 2011 Share #3 Posted December 3, 2011 If you know how to do it 30x40" prints are great. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/9022-30-x-40-inch-m8-prints.html Skip the negativism, but David Adamson's posts are well worth reading. ezc203 Posted December 3, 2011 Share #4 Posted December 3, 2011 Again, it's all about viewing distance. But if you're looking to hang your images around the house (and assuming your home is somewhat reasonably sized) I've had great results printing to 16 x 24 inches in size. wda Posted December 3, 2011 Share #5 Posted December 3, 2011 If you know how to do it 30x40" prints are great.http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/9022-30-x-40-inch-m8-prints.html Skip the negativism, but David Adamson's posts are well worth reading. The link to David Adamson's thread is worthy of being placed in a Sticky with FAQ (Assuming it is not already there). I remember the controversy when it first appeared and there were vocal (or verbal) disbelievers. I remember asking him in a separate thread about his method which included use of Alien Skin BlowUp which I have used following his advice. At least one member visited his studio and confirmed all that David had claimed. David was supplying impressive wall art from his M8. I wonder what he is using today? Anyone know? WestMichigan Posted December 3, 2011 Share #6 Posted December 3, 2011 As for 'how big' the M8 will print to: that is a question only you can answer. The variables of what the image is of, how you want it perceived, the viewing distances it will be judged at, etc etc are to daunting to give blanket answers beyond certain rough guidelines. My answer to your question would be: Should be good for most any print size you'd be hanging in your own house.* *unless you were playing in the high iso end of the pool, then it is a personal judgement where all the variables noted above come into play :-) As for 'where' to print: If you're in North America I personally reccomend Allied Photo & Imaging. Allied Photo & Imaging Lab They also do worldwide orders routinely, but I'm assuming most users generally wouldn't want that kind of lag time in shipping. They cater to everything from the individual photographer/craftsmen to semi-pro/pro's and are actually a highly regarded OEM supplier for Photo Items people order at a number of other 'quality' online professional printing sites. I have used them for over twenty years and even worked there once upon a time. Good people, good equipment, good products and good prices, too. imho Richard in Michigan I'm sure this has been asked before but didn't come up with much upon searching. I was wondering what the maximum size (generally speaking) that is appropriate to print with the m8. gdbale Posted December 3, 2011 Author Share #7 Posted December 3, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks for the replies, some good information there. To clarify I am in the UK so if anyone could recommend printers I would be very appreciative.
jaapv Posted December 3, 2011 Share #8 Posted December 3, 2011 Never used them myself, but Whitewall has an excellent reputation: Online Photo Lab: Mountings, Framings and Prints - WhiteWall I am very happy using Profotonet. Not in the UK but NL, however nowadays that should not make a difference. http://www.profotonet.nl/
