"New" M6 classic - where has it been?

You want us to tell you from who you purchased it and where the seller kept the camera?

No, just a question on how this happens. Did someone buy it and then not use it?

Or did a collector buy it and keep it on a shelf?

Just curious how a camera can go unused for 14 years.

If you put it on a shelf for another year it will go unused for 15 years.

Leica cameras and lenses have been given as corporate gifts for decades (probably by the same marketing people who buy Rolex watches). As we all know using a rangefinder isn't for everybody, so I have no doubt some of these ended up in brand new condition on closet shelves.

After that it's probably just a waiting game, either for an estate sale just before retiring to a place in Florida (insert the place in your country where old folks go to die) or discovered by some young relative who is anxious to convert old photography equipment into cash.

Bought a new, never opened Hasselblad 501c system last year (body, lens and A12 back) - camera store bankruptcy is what I suspect - and my Millennium M6 was also unused when I bought that.

Not so super unusual to find unused cameras occasionally. I prefer them generally, for stupid cosmetic reasons mostly - but the downside is that a camera is often in worse shape internally if never used over a long period of time.

The important thing is to use it now. If it has sat unused all this time it may need a CLA too, depending upon the conditions it has endured. Either way you have a great camera. Use it and enjoy it. :)
