IR filters arrival?

There was a couple of threads from our European members last week or the week before about the IR filters being shipped. Have all the Euros got their filters and is there any news on the arrival of the filters in North America

Thanks

Someone said they'd seen a thread here to the effect that people in teh UK had had their filters but I've searched and can't find it - I don't have mine yet and as far as I know, nobody does, anywhere.

All I hope for is that the Leica version allows me to put the lens hood on my 24mm 2.8 - or I'm gonna have a serious hissy fit. Really.

I'm in the UK and haven't received mine yet. I believe the person who had received theirs was in germany.

The hoods for my 21mm and 24mm Elmarits are a somewhat reluctant fit with the B+W 486 filters mounted. Here's why:

Filter outside diameter = 56.99mm

Distance between locating tabs in hood (also min diameter inside front of hood) = 56.97mm

(Lens outer diameter = 57.98mm, distance between bottom of tab cutouts in lens =56.35mm)

The filter mount outside diameter is the same as the distance between the hood tabs which makes for a very tight fit. In my case the leading edge of the hood tabs have worn down slightly making the fit easier after a while. I'd hope the Leica filters are a better fit. It'll be interesting to see if there's a fit difference between the german and rumored japanese filters.

Bob.

No filters, or any news thereof, here on the U.S. Pacific Rim.

Not to beat a dead horse once again, but I just don't see Leica getting it--understanding their clients. Time to get out of the bunker and communicate with us. Firmware 1.10, or IR filters--they've promised to have them out this month. Great. But given recent history, and considering it's already February 20th, I can't help but be skeptical.

A client of mine once said, "Problems I can handle, surprises I can't."

If the filters will be delivered later than planned due to technical problems, manufacturing issues or whatever the case may be--just say so. Tell me. I can deal with it. I may not be happy about it, but Leica's reputation, in my mind at least, won't be hurt if I am dealt with honestly.

Same thing with 1.10. If taking an extra 2 weeks or a month will allow Leica to really get it right, all I need is an e-mail blast or a letter or statement on Leica's website explaining the situation, describing the solution, and I'll be o.k. (a little apology wouldn't hurt, but that's the least of my interests.)

This continued predilection for not considering the implications of a company's actions or lack of actions, really amazes me. JetBlue really blew (sorry) it last week. But are they stonewalling the world and pretending it didn't happen? No, they are attempting to address it fairly and openly. Such an approach keeps customer loyalty high, and is simply invaluable in business. Ignoring the needs of clients is a prescription for hard times.

I would love to see Leica reach out and enlist the help/input of an advisory group--a dozen or so Leica customers around the world--real Leica users. It would be a great start. Count me in Leica.

Sorry, but felt it had to be said.

Given up waiting and ordered a 43mm black B+W 486 today from Fotosense in the UK for the Biogon 35mm, mainly, in the hope that it will cure the flash underexposure problem on GNC. I will probably sell my Leica 43mm filter when it arrives, as they are only able to supply in Silver - why????? I suspect that I will not use the black 46mm one they are sending me for my Biogon 21mm too much, as I really can't be bothered to process for cyan corners on every image. If I could ever get the paint job to work for lens coding, I might pay Zeiss the €60 to change the bayonet to a 28mm one. I wait to see how effective 1.10 will be on the cyan corners for folks with the coded 21mm Elmarit.

I'm changing the mount on my Biogon 21 to a 28 mount. I will code it myself before fitting and fool this thing into a Leica 21. Ordered the exchange mount from Zeiss-I today, those things are cheap - about 30 Euros.:)

Jaap,

Did you see my post of a reply from Zeiss re this? They claim that the bayonet has to be put on in a jig to get it accurate or is this BS? I think for an extra €30, I might get Zeiss to do it. Once you have changed your bayonet and your hand coding is working, I would greatly appreciate if you could email me a high definition end-on picture so I can copy your hard work to get my lens coding working. The best I have got so far is a 90mm indication on the EXIF!

Anybody have an extra 60mm IR cut filter (the 486?) or even two?

I ordered two on my Leica free-filters form, but I'm fed up. If I can get them somewhere else, I'll do it.

JC

The 60mm 486 B&W filters are available at Foto Huppert for € 83,- each. Call or email them for availability. I've bought from them recently and received very good service.

Steve,

You are so RIGHT ON with your comments!

Leica USA's reluctance to effectively grapple with the entire M8 communications mess is still costing them an enormous amount of prestige in today's marketplace, whatever the value of the product may be. The fact that they still just don't get it makes my teeth itch.
