Well now I like your question, I just sold my 5D with 100 macro 85 1.2 and 35 1.4 lenses.

The story is i bought the X pro 1 by Fuji and did not like the focusing problems. But i like the camera very much and will keep it.I still had the canon gear as a backup for the X pro 1. Now i had to make a decision, do I buy the new 5D MK lll or Leica M8.2. Well I got the X pro 1 because it was small, I did not want to carry a large camera around any more. I am 62 and retired to Honduras where the photography is great. So now i have the X pro 1 which is great in low light. So I decided to go with the M 8.2 as i have shot with M cameras before and love them ( there is nothing finer to have in your hand. It is almost an erotic experience.) Now in my opinion I have the best combo to shoot with.

Selling stuff is a real hard thing to do.

After the analogue era (Pentax K1000 + lenses) I started DSLR with - Pentax. However I found that Pentax had changed a lot on their way from SLR to DSLR and sacrificed quality, so there was a lot come and go (countless AF issues, shutter blur issues etc), until I had a line-up that worked quite well.

Out of curiosity I bought a used 5D to see what FF was all about. This was a hit and I extended the system - not for the FF character but for a quid of reliability I hadn't thought was possible after my Pentax experiences.

I couldn't resist the compact size of the PEN system and was happy with the E-PL1 + the great Panas 20/1.7 and 14-45 OIS. Yet the sensor wasn't satisfactory, so I picked up a X100 out of curiosity when I'm on a business trip and have no room for carrying along big gear. Great one, the X100!

Then I bought an M8 out of curiosity and extended the system not for the Leica fame but for the compact size that made sure I always carried the M8 + two lenses with me. After a while an M9 joined the trip.

So what went away? I sold all Pentax gear except a bulletproof Kx, a FA43/1.9 and a DA70/2.4. Why? Because the body has no more value and the lenses are just great lenses. I sold all zooms (good ones: DA50-150/2.8, 17-70/4, 12-24 etc) and most primes.

I didn't sell the PEN because the kids do some trips once in a while and are happy to have a good working camera. Though recently it seems they prefer just an ipod. I couldn't sell the 20/1.7 prime which is excellent. However a friend has bought himself into µFT and asked me if I sold that one to him and I'm getting increasingly positive because I know the one who would take that gem (I couldn't give it to some anonymous people).

I would never ever under any circumstances (sorry only now I'm coming to the question of this thread) sell the 5D. It sits mostly in the basement because it is too heavy. But: sometimes I need tele lense . and that is just great with EF 70-200 + converter. This is some nogo with Leica (ever been shooting a 90mm lense for > 1.5h? I got tears in my eyes and developed severe strabismus). And: the 5D system is bullet-proof. It doesn't let you down. Neither does the Leica system. But I would feel naked without the 5D. In the end, just because it served me well for a period...

If I had to strip it down, the first thing to go was the whole PEN equipment and the remaining Pentax lenses. Second I would sell the wide angle prime and zooms of the 5D equipment. Then I would sell the M8 as a last resort, bleeding heart.

I would never sell:

M9 plus CV Nokton 1.2/35 asph; Summarit 75

Fuji X100

5D plus EF 50/1.4, Tamron 28-75/2.8; EF 70-200 IS

I sold all my Canon gear. A 5D' date=' a 550D, a 24-105, a 15-30, a 580exII.. all the damn thing!

Just to buy 2 Leicas.. a M8 and a M2.. so..

Sell all that Canon gear and enjoy the rangefinder![/quote']

Did exactly the same with very similar kit then yours (5D lenses etc... ) and I'm loving my M8 it's more then just the photography is the experience of it and using something so tactile and well made.

And I'm very happy with the photo I'm getting to.

Selling stuff is a real hard thing to do.

..

I know that feeling quite well. There´s an old but still shining Nikon d300 sitting on my desk with some Nikkor primes (and currently a rented 500/4). Hell yeah, i love the pictures and possibilities this system is able to deliver. But it´s so darn heavy; and have you ever been on a spontaneous family trip with all the gear around? if looks could kill...

So nowadays the M8 is the preferred "on the road" tool and the voice in my head wants me to sell at least the 12-24 and 24-70/2,8 or the 105VR micro. But i can´t, i really can´t .. i´m still in love with those Nikon lenses .o(and truth to be told: sometimes, when i´m sick of working my bum on the M8 off trying to get along with low light or focussing on people moving like flies i grab the Nikon and simply take that damn picture)

Sell the M8 while you can because once addicted there is no cure. I thought I was cured after 5 years with Nikon until a family member bought a M8. I had to have one too. Seems to be like shingles or herpes which lies dormant forever so now there is a M9 due next week. Fortunately I still had all the lenses etc.

Sell the Canon? Only you can decide if you are willing to put up with what the M8 does not do well, precise framing and having to use a visoflex for close up and tele and then you need to mask that down to smaller finder size. There are no zoom lenses either.

I would keep the Canon for a while to be sure and when you get tired of charging the batteries to keep them alive and you do not use it, then sell it. I never sell anything, but now I have way too much stuff.

You will need to get IR/UV filters for M8 lenses to keep the colors true and then best to code the lenses so the camera can make corrections to the resulting cyan corners. It makes nasty foliage and blacks and all the other colors are "off" also. Once you get it done, even snow scenes will look beautiful.

I bought my first Leica M8 this year, March. I bought it next to my Canon 1Ds, after a while I noticed there was a layer of dust on the 1Ds, I sold it and bought some glass.

Now I actually sold the M8 and bought an M8.2 (brand new) and have been using the M8 and M8.2 since march, and never had so much satisfactory photographs!!!

So for me it was a BIG yes, sell the canon!

Hi,

I have sold my NEX7 to replace it with a M8u.

The M8 makes a lot of fun when walking and taking pics in the city. I did not have this "feeling" with my NEX7. I do not know what it is but taking pics with the M8 is another feeling as shooting with a Canon or Nikon (or Sony).

I have kept my SONY RX100 however for those situations where the M8 is not so suitable at.

I would sell too as catching dust is soo sad.... get the extra lens - from what i read you already did... and then start thinking about how will i pay for the next lens altogether (it gets a bit addictive to try out new glass)

Having said so, when i just bought my m8 (about 3 years ago now) - I only had 1 lens for a good 18 months, a '64 50mm summicron. It was good to start with just that one option as it pushed me really to learn the rangefinder way - and realize that one always has a zoomfacility handy...
