Babybinjp Posted November 21, 2011 Share #1 Posted November 21, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, While out shooting yesterday afternoon with my M8.2 the shutter started firing and would not stop until I removed the bottom plate. At least it sounded like it was firing anyway as there were no actual photos taken while this was happening. It happened while the battery was low and after about 3 or4 fairly quick shots in single mode. Seems fine after inserting a fresh battery. Anyone else had this happen? Lightwrangler Posted November 21, 2011 Share #2 Posted November 21, 2011 Had the same problem. Camera has to go to CS, there is a problem with the recocking-sensor. The shutter thinks it is not properly winding and retries on and on. Leica usually changes the shutter-mechanism without charge. Give the CS a call before you send in the camera. But, don't discount the fact the battery was 'low', while I haven't had the same issue: my M8 is flaky when battery goes down and judging from threads around the M8 Forum I've read before getting it: The M8 routinely flakes out when the battery gets low. It's why I have a spare and switch batt's as soon as possible when the battery indicator stops showing 'full'. There is little upside in delaying putting a fully charged battery in. Why invite the hassles. The Batt's might not be 'cheap' compared to NikCanTax etc, but they are just about the cheapest Leica Stuff you can buy. Like most things in life: it all depends on what benchmarks you're gaining your perspective from! :-) R. in Mi. Will be taking a trip back home for the holidays next month so maybe after my return will send it in anyway as it could probably use a good CLA. Will be bringing my M6 as a backup on my trip so if it craps out on me I'll be ok. Would be a good excuse to shoot some more film. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Note: Having a second battery is like my number one advice to anyone getting a camera, film or digital. Seriously. Batteries almost never poop out when you DON"T want to take a picture. Actually I do have a second battery but some times don't pay attention to the battery when shooting and run it low. Just ordered another from B&H for the trip home too. Will be sub zero temps and cold is hell on batteries. Thanks again! always best to look on the bright side! Shoot a roll or two anyways. It only happened once and I have never experienced it again after the one time. One of my $10 ones shows always a full charge on the camera meter and the shutter starts firing when the battery drains. Works fine otherwise. Shade Posted November 24, 2011 Share #10 Posted November 24, 2011 Low batteries in leica can exhibit wierd issues (I don't understand why really), but yes, try to remove and replace your battery when it's at 20%.
