m4-p vs mp?

only difference is the meter? if you didn't care about having a through the lens meter, would you buy an m4-p before an mp?

They are so different that I wonder how one would not find profound differences. I am not fond of the MP's retro features. I do have an M4-P (black) and it carries an Abrahamsson Rapid Winder II. I got because it was relatively inexpensive at the time, but it has turned out to be rugged and reliable. (Aside: it was such a savings that I treated the camera quite casually and also completely blacked it out without a second thought.)

I would suggest the M4-P and put the savings difference toward a lens.

An MP is one of those irrational purchases it is difficult to resist (if you have the cash). Comparing specs and prices is never going to be the way to justify what is a ludicrously indulgent buy at today's price. I'm ashamed to say I've succumbed twice to the temptation.:)

For film using, I think M4-P is one of the best buys ; and if one really wants the meter, M6 is the right choice : MP is for having a certain taste, and you pay for it.

Agreed. It's hard to go wrong with an M4-P. If you can't live without a built in meter, the M6 classic is probably the best choice.

At today's prices, I would find it very difficult to invest in a new MP - but they are truly wonderful cameras. The $5000US that the MP goes for would buy the photographic odyssey of a lifetime and an M4-P or M6 classic would preform admirably on that odyssey.

Aaaah, what the hell - we live once and there are no do-overs. Get the MP and go on your photographic odyssey of a lifetime. It's only money. :D

...M4-P without a doubt, seeing as you don't care about the built in meter.

Tried one of the light meter apps for the iphone, happy to tell people the version privately as I do not want to seem to be endorsing one vs the other. Read the idea on one thread or another. Used the readout to set my M9 rather than rely on the internal meter (for which I have no complaint, this was a pure experiment) and the results, to be honest, were better with the iphone meter app. Point is, I always have my phone with me so using a camera with no internal meter doesn't seem like too much of a problem.
