Tom Johnston Posted December 7, 2011 Share #21 Posted December 7, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) i just wish they would update firmware for the M8 as a general principle. regarding the cards, i've been using my original sandisk III 2gb card and ultra 2...without problem. shooting raw each card holds something like 187 files. i recently picked up an 8gb pny card just to try. the number of files it holds is frightening, should it fail before downloading. Sure. I wonder why people are so keen of >8GB cards for small pixel count cameras like the M8.
wda Posted December 7, 2011 Share #23 Posted December 7, 2011 Tom, for the reason you know, I only used 2gb and 4gb cards with my M8.
ho_co Posted December 7, 2011 Author Share #24 Posted December 7, 2011 ... I wonder why people are so keen of >8GB cards for small pixel count cameras like the M8. Because we pixel counters like to count 'em as they transfer from card reader to camera, that's why! Transferring from 4GB cards doesn't give you time to work up a sweat, but with 16GB cards you can watch the progress indicator and get excited shouting "Come on, baby! One more image done! Atta girl, you can do it, let's go!"
ho_co Posted December 7, 2011 Author Share #25 Posted December 7, 2011 i just wish they would update firmware for the M8 as a general principle.... I agree. If they discovered something wrong with the way the M9 firmware wrote to Sandisk cards, and if the M8 uses the same generation algorithm for its own writing, it seems to me Leica is bound to update the M8 firmware the same way. But being bound isn't the same as executing. I hope they do! :hopeful:

jevidon Posted January 14, 2012 Share #29 Posted January 14, 2012 Anything over 8GB on an M8 is a waste of money. The newer high capacity cards accept a load speed that is far in excess of the M8's capability. I find no noticable difference in the download speed of my newer 8 GB card from my old reliable Sandisk Exreme III's. Save your money.
