ho_co Posted November 9, 2011 Share #1 Posted November 9, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Since Leica has issued a firmware fix for the M9's card compatibility problems, I hope they will also update the similar M8 firmware. Anyone else feel the same way? I've recently begun running into "Card Full" warnings on 16 GB SanDisk cards when the cards have very few images stored. Seems to me the improvements made to the M9 firmware might also be useful to M8 users.
Advertisement Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Hi ho_co, Take a look here Firmware update M8?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted November 9, 2011 Share #2 Posted November 9, 2011 8GB are more than enough for small pixel count cameras to me and my inexpensive Transcend cards work flawlessly actually so i cannot say that i am interested personally but i would not be surprised if some Sandisk oddities are taken into account in a next firmware update. pgk Posted November 10, 2011 Share #3 Posted November 10, 2011 I'm running both 16 and 32 Mb cards with no problems so I'm suspicious of cards when others report problems arrising (in fact I can't remember having had a card problem on my M8s at all - 512k to 32Mb over ~5 years). So I'm not sure that a firmware update is going to cure a problem which I don't have and which may well be card related.
wda Posted November 10, 2011 Share #4 Posted November 10, 2011 I have had no problems with cards in my M8; although I more frequently use 4gb capacity, occasionally 8gb, all Sandisk. I was even able to use 8gb Sandisk cards rejected by the M9!
Guest Posted November 10, 2011 Share #5 Posted November 10, 2011 No problems with Scandisc-16-GB-cards in my M8.2, but the Lexar-2-GB-card included to the camera went off yesterday. It's empty but the M8.2. cannot write on it. Any suggestions?
lct Posted November 10, 2011 Share #6 Posted November 10, 2011 Yes format it with your PC and format it again with the camera.

Carl E Posted November 10, 2011 Share #8 Posted November 10, 2011 I had the SD card full error with my M8 (latest firmware) just now, and after three unsuccessful attempts to reformat via the menu in the camera I shut down the camera, removed the battery, put it back in and reformatted the card successfully. I seem to remember having to do this a couple of times before, and it works for me.
john_newell Posted November 10, 2011 Share #9 Posted November 10, 2011 Thank you, I have tried this for several times but with no success. You should download and use the official format utility for best results.
john_newell Posted November 10, 2011 Share #10 Posted November 10, 2011 Even with firmware that is absolutely flawless, things go wrong in real life. The idea of losing 16 or 32 GB of files is more than I've got the stomach for. I've been totally happy with 4 GB cards on the M8.

jaapv Posted November 10, 2011 Share #12 Posted November 10, 2011 No problems with Scandisc-16-GB-cards in my M8.2, but the Lexar-2-GB-card included to the camera went off yesterday. Guest Posted November 10, 2011 Share #13 Posted November 10, 2011 Dustbin? Certainly, several trials couldn't wake it up, the lexar card reader and so my computer still ignores it. The M8.2 gives only two remarks: "SD-Card full" and "Attention No valid image to play". Puting it to the trash is no problem, as using 2-GB-cards isn't very comfortable nowadays. Stateowned Posted November 10, 2011 Share #14 Posted November 10, 2011 the cards full thing only appeared to me when i put the card in while the camera was on. if i put it in when turned off it works flawlessly
Cyril Jayant Posted December 6, 2011 Share #15 Posted December 6, 2011 Some used to refer to their camera as M8.2 . So is it's compatibility to the firmware (latest) is different to the M8 older body.

jazzwave Posted December 7, 2011 Share #17 Posted December 7, 2011 I'm using SanDisk 8GB,working well To avoid card problem when shooting in the street, prefer to use 8GB x 2 instead of one 16GB. Yes, I'm still waiting M8 firmware update for Hi-ISO (>640) noise reduction.... ~ronni~
