Sorry ICT, perhaps it is the color calibration of my iMac monitor, but I don't see any cyan on the bottom right wall.

 

My purpose with these examples was to demonstrate that for most people, IMHO, the need to use Cornerfix with the 21SEM is, if not eliminated, greatly reduced.

Thanks for images, really helpful.

 

The reason for me to nag about color shift is that I take a few high key snow photos, and for *me* the color shifts are to distracting for these. For more neutral non-white motives I guess this is not a problem. Also a matter of personal preferenses.

Thanks ICT. Here is another photo taken of the same room, and as you can see there are a variety of lights, with different color temperatures, throughout. In this photo it looks to me as if the wall behind the lion sculpture is illuminated by a light with a slight cyan cast.

Finally, got my SEM21 today, but sadly cannot even begin to use it for a few more weeks as I have not one day off until then. Love the Leica tote bag that came with it. Now I have something to carry around those reference books I badly need.

This cyan cast is hardly visible in your pic above (again cyan saturation +80). I don't use the same Mac though so perhaps i'm wrong.

The photo of the Lion was taken wide open at f/3.4 and I was probably about half a meter away.

 

Pete, the wall behind the Lion is stone, perhaps limestone, and definitely has color variations. Here's another version with +60 vignetting. I definitely think this is too much, but I just wanted to give you an extreme value so you could judge the effect.

I've been thinking about the near focus for that shot. This lens has to be truly incredible, WIDE OPEN, to have all that subject matter in focus. I'll bet you hand held this one too. Oh, to be young again!

No kidding!!!!

 

Seriously, with this lens it is not hard to hand hold shots at 1/30 sec or perhaps a little slower. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Shutter speeds with a 21mm lens really shift dramatically towards the very slow ones, compared to even a wide angle 35mm.

A regular, reliable slow shutter speed can be used at 1/15 with some training, while you can use often slow speeds of 1/8, 1/4 or even the extreme of 1sec in very, very low light.

 

In this context, the "slow" f3.4 lens really is usable in hand held night shooting.

 

On my first night out with a 21 f3.4 Konica lens, I deliberately used it at very slow speeds, to find out, what's possible.

People always see the slow maximum aperture and think it's a daylight lens, but actually it's not ;-)

Went out tonight to try the 21 3.4 for the first time. Had the 35 1.4 FLE on the M9 and pulled the 21 out of its leather case (I normally leave them at home for storage there), took off the 35 , put on the 21. Now where to put the 35? Well, I tried it in the 21 case and it fit perfectly, hood attached and all.

 

Just a bit of info for those of you who are awaiting a 35 FLE.

The fact is that their hoods are identical – the item no. is 12465. The body of the 21mm lens is a bit shorter. So while the 21 fits in the 35's case, the reverse is not true.

That's what I am saying that the 35 FLE actually fit into the 21's case.

 

I do not have the 35's case with me to see if the reverse is true.

I do not think an image with mixed light like this one is a very good test shot for color casts.

I agree completely. My posts and sample images were not meant to be a lens review, but simply a selection of real world examples from my first day with this lens. I did however want to stress that, IMHO, the use of Cornerfix is not needed except in extreme situations, and that people considering this lens should not feel it is lacking when used in combination with the M9 and latest firmware.
