1250 lines?

Got artefacts like that with all my digicams at high isos on underexposed images. Raw converters handle them more or less efficiently. Here M8.2, CV 21/4 P, f/5.6, 1250 iso, ACR & C1, default settings, 100% crops. Shot for this thread as i avoid 1250 with the M8.2 generally.

I have the same issue when shooting at 1250 on my m8.

If I shoot in continuous mode @ 1250 in lowlight, first image will be free of banding, the second will show horizontal lines (though faint),

but the third and fourth image will be just full of lines similar to what you're seeing in the image on flickr.

This problem only seems to occur when at 1250 though I've seen it very faintly in some photos taken at 640 when in continuous mode.

Basically, I just keep the camera on single shot and the problem has been pretty much non-existent.

However, I pretty much always get horizontal banding at 2500 ISO, especially in artificial light with synthetic fabrics.

Oh and by the way, I edit my RAWs using lightroom 3.5, not sure if the artifacts are exaggerated by using different programs or not. What would be the current ARC for CS5?

Yep, that is the signature of underexposure & crops up at 1250 and especially at 2500. I have the impression it is slightly better than it used to be, possibly via firmware & C1 improvements. One thing does help, set the dark level a bit higher (effectively a contrast change, that masks the stripe noise in the dark regions). In C1 you can do this via the histogram. Nevertheless it takes considerable practice to get something acceptable. B&W also helps.

Edit: I would not be unhappy with the image you show. It is still a good portrait.

The band-pairs are exactly 4 pixels wide. Do they get worse as you take more pictures without changing anything or restarting the camera?

Not necessarily, in this case I had took around 20 shots were the iso was ranging from 320-1250 and only appears every now and then and I do only shoot in single mode.

Phew, I was thinking the sensor maybe on its way out again. I also liked the shot but then noticed the lines... and thought the worst) I have the contrast set at mask for JPEG but I do usually push up the contrast with the raw file. This particular file (RAW) had lines which were quite pronounced compared to the JPG.

I used to have the ISO set at 640 but then moved to 1250.. bit hit and miss as we can see! but looks like 1250 is about to be made redundant.

Thanks to all)) I thought it might be another dead sensor)
