Nothing - it's still there :)

Given that we have been to Southern Europe three times in a row, it was felt that more northern cities should be offered as a choice for 2012.

There's nothing to prevent Istanbul or any other city, being considered in future years.

I quite like your idea of "the more you attend, the more votes you have". As the only person to have attended every challenge, that would give me ten votes next year. Which would be handy. Now, that really IS democracy :)

PS - Don't forget the Charity Book we discussed ;)

Andy,

Did I miss one? Can't remember which. Anyroad, I agree, for obvious reasons, that the ones who put their efforts - and money - where their mouths was should weigh more heavily: proven commitment and all that. Yet, they, or should I say, we, were also the ones to abide by the vote of the majority. Every year has seen new faces who, presumably, did vote at some stage. So the fact that our next destination is chosen in an open vote is part of the Challenge, IMHO, and may incite more participants. I quite agree with the suggestion that votes be not anonymous.

To be continued...

How about voting in the same way that we use for the Challenge itself:

'vote for your three favourite destinations'...

...the top one gets 3 points, second 2 points, the third choice gets 1 point,

the one with the most points at the end wins

Then the whole thing is consistent all the way through .

I also agree that the voting should not be anonymous.

It wasn't a military coup last year and we still ended up in Palermo anyway.

Well initially it was declared that Palermo would be the destination, it was only thrown open to vote after complaints by myself and others. I was happy with the final decision, knowing I had the opportunity to have my say.

Call it democracy!

... My issue last year was the initial 'military coup' who decided the venue full stop.

Hardly a miltary coup when it was decided on a vote by all of last year's attendees and then endorsed through a forum-wide vote, James.

How were the venues for the first few One Challenges decided because I don't recall being invited to vote? Perhaps I missed the voting threads.:o

Pete.

Pete, initially Palermo was chosen during the Venice weekend and it was announced here that that's where it would be.

It was only thrown open to a forum wide vote after some of us who couldn't attend Venice voiced our opinions about reverting back to an open vote.

Bill set the first One Challenge in London. I can't recall how it was decided for the 2nd time but I'm pretty certain we've used the same shortlist/voting system since then.

To pre-empt any pedantic responses, of course I don't mean military coup in the literal sense, as there isn't a military organisation within this forum (except of course for members here who have served, or are serving, or are about to serve in some branch of the armed forces, including the French foreign legion). My reference to a military coup was partly in jest (see humour, joke, sarcasm) but also to describe how the original choice of venue was made by a small section of the forum who voted among themselves and declared the result as final, as opposed to the hitherto (and subsequent) rather more democratic approach of an open vote, for a shortlisted number of venues, chosen by the attendees of the 'current' challenge.

Just wanted to make that clear before I get corrected, thanks.
