Advertisement Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Hi mmradman, Take a look here Opinion on PhotoAlps please. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Ivar B Posted October 11, 2011 Share #2 Posted October 11, 2011 This is the same seller as Arsenal Photo (Germany and HK) and also other stores. This is an honest operation and there is no danger dealing with them. Perhaps description of condition can be a little optimistic sometimes.
ayewing Posted October 12, 2011 Share #3 Posted October 12, 2011 I am sure that they are a reputable company but I am not impressed by the prices they charge. I note that they have a black Summilux 50mm for £4190 BIN or offer. I bought a new one from Ffordes in the UK in April for £2300 supplied within a fortnight.

Typical inflated eBAY pricing, I guess somebody buys at those prices. My primary aim here was to establish is such eBay seller credible or not. UK market is well served by UK dealers, sometimes a bit of patience is required to get rare item and mostly at more reasonable prices.
earleygallery Posted October 12, 2011 Share #5 Posted October 12, 2011 Be aware that if you buy with your credit card via paypal you won't have the same protection from your credit card as you'd get from dealing direct with the dealer. Ok paypal offer their own consumer protection but it's at their discretion.
veraikon Posted October 13, 2011 Share #6 Posted October 13, 2011 am sure that they are a reputable company but I am not impressed by the prices they charge. it is imho the typical price policy of the "Boris imperium". The PhotoAlps store is located in Zell am See (Salzburg) Austria. Zell am See is "famous" for his islamic invasion during summer times. The hotels in Zell focused their marketing on arabian countries (Gulf, Saudi Arabia etc.). And it seems to work. I believe this PhotoAlps shop is focusing on these customers. So don´t worry about prices

Rick in CO Posted October 13, 2011 Share #8 Posted October 13, 2011 I have had one experience with them. I made an offer on an eBay item which included postage (to USA), but when the item arrived I had a postage due payment to make. Not customs fee, postage due. I paid the postage, because I was getting a rare like-new lens for my Linhof at what I considered half-price. So, I am not complaining, just offering my experience. But, as always, even if you are confident you have the transaction well-defined, pay with a credit card that will back you up if something unacceptable happens. algrove Posted October 13, 2011 Share #9 Posted October 13, 2011 This summer I went to their Nuremburg store to see in person a Hassy lens. They came down just 5% on what was a fine lens, but overpriced by 20-25% in my opinion. Also they wanted cash and said used camera gear did not allow for a VAT refund for non European residents. I walked.

I walked. i have noticed that with some s/h dealers. Bit greedy don't you think, wanting to pocket extra 20% Meister Camera & WestLicht in Vienna do not charge German/Austrian VAT on secondhand goods. Edit, WestLicht charges VAT on S/H.
