Hi guys,

just bought a Leica 'Amateur Case For M' cat no 14820 and whilst looking for details of the case I came across this excellent link from the German forum.

Ah yes, I remember it well, I was selling Leicas in those days, I think I have a copy of it somewhere, also the rather nice lens booklet they did at that time.

Selling Leicas in 1968 Gerry?

Must have been fascinating, who were buying them?

Plenty of Canadienes had enough money, it was in Montreal, where I had emigrated to escape Harold Wilson's devalued England  and enjoy the World Fair, Expo 67,

I bought 2 M3s that year, it was a very good year for them, the last batch, I still have one of them. I kept the paperwork!

Gerry, the old man who remembers good Leica service ;)

Ah yes Mr. Harold Wilson, whose famous line in announcing "Devaluation" was "the pound in your pocket will not be affected".... to which some wit added "until it comes out of your pocket when it will be worth six shillings and eightpence"....

I find it ironic that the TV series "To Death Us Do Part" on the BBC featured the trendy hairy left wing layabout actor Anthony Booth who became the father of Cherie Blair....

Getting off topic sorry

Thanks for the post. I still have the equivalent US Leica catalogs (printed by E.Leitz N.Y.) #41 (6-68) and #42 (1-69) - from my college days when I worked part time at the local Leica dealer and bought my M4.

The 6-68 issue listed the M4, M3, and M2 cameras (M4 and M3 same price!) - while the 1-69 issue no longer listed the M3 and M2.

About that time I also traded my Canon SLRs and lenses for a Leicaflex SL. It is again my favorite SLR for its simplicity and "large-spot" meter system.
