LotharZhou Posted September 29, 2011 Share #1 Posted September 29, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I made a phone call to the solmser custom service on Monday and discussed about the possibility to go there and having my old M8 cleaned. It has a dirty sensor and more worryingly the stain or fungus inside the viewfinder, i am just not sure after 3 years usage. Mr. Uwe kindly answered my call and called me back very early on Tuesday morning asked me to bring the camera in for inspection. My M8's warranty has been long expired and I knew I had to pay to get this service done. Took the camera to Solmser by local train and handed to the reception lady, here is the suprise, she said Leica will do the full service for me free of charge and they can get it done by 2pm on the same day! Wow, what a great day! To clean the sensor itself costs about 35pounds in London, not even to mention opening the top plate and clean the viewfinder etc. So I happily walked around the town and waited until 2pm, everything was in perfct condition and shape, Leica even gave me a notebook with Leica logo, lots of stickers, a very nice cleaning pack, and a superb bottom cap for a lens, plus all the paper work explaining what kinds of maintance they have done! More than professional service for a 3 year old no warranty M8! What can I say, Leica service is more generous and reliable than I expected! Thank you! Leica! Welcome, dear visitor! enboe Posted October 8, 2011 Share #12 Posted October 8, 2011 M6TTL/0.58 LHSA shuttter jammed - replaced free of charge (I was the second owner) M7 DX contacts - replaced with optical system free of charge (well out of warranty) M8 shutter replacement - received new with a tear in the shutter. Early camera, so it was arguably better to repair than to wait for another replacement camera. A couple of in-warranty repairs for dust in finder, card issues, etc. Paid repairs: M7 finder upgrade - done perfectly M9 baseplate replacement - this one irked me a little, as it was received bent when new. I referred to my free repairs history and chalked it up to a little balance in the universe. M8 top-plate and finder rebuild after being dropped - like new again. A ton of 6-bit upgrades.
