Wasn't there a thread about this carry on a few weeks ago? Sorry I couldn't find it.

Basically isn't the idea to place the product, ask for an outrageous price, in the hope that someone will contact the seller, buy it directly and bypass the bidding process?

This gives the seller free advertising and deprives Ebay of their cut, so I believe.

Ebay is a minefield!

As far as I can see this is not a scam. There is no bidding involved; it's a 'buy it now' price and payment can be made through paypal.

The item seems real, and the owner sure thinks they may well be able to command such a value. I guess they might.

Pop the number below into ebay and prepare for some kind of emotional responce. I'm still smirking.

Insane! Gosh, I wish someone would make a replica of the hood that fit a Noctilux and the early 75mm Summilux.

I did note that the description specifies that "The Lens is in Excellent condition" : so some possibilities can be insighted :

- The offer INCLUDES an excellent Noctilux 1,2...not shown because hood is the real plus

- The lens is ok ("excellent") and the hood no...so the seller offers the hood only and keeps the lens.

- The pictures on ebay are indeed good - have been taken with an excellent lens and the seller is proud to notify it.

- The 12503 is notoriously of the divisible type, to accomodate a series VIII filter... or an excellent close focus lens - included.

The lens is not included, Luigi.

The lens is listed here, and without the hood: Leitz Leica Noctilux-M 50/1.2 *Rare* 50mm f/1.2 | eBay

That's an eye watering price.

Sorry... indeed I wanted to fill of laughing emoticons my above post, but their number is capped... :D

I'll write him to ask if , buying the lens at that price, I can have the hood for... NOT FREE, OF COURSE !!!... but... say with a 10% discount.. on the hood ONLY, naturally... :D

The seller is in Hong Kong where there are a lot of very rich people who don't think twice about spending this kind of money on a bottle of wine, let alone a hard to find lens hood. After all if you can spend $25,688 on the lens you are hardly likely tio quibble over a few grand more to be able to use it. The danger for ordinary users / collectors is it's a sign that vintage (film) cameras are being repositioned as toys that only the super rich can afford. It's not just the rare expensive things he wants a lot of money for, it's every thing. $88 buys you a generic B&W filter that would have been $5 at any camera fair a few years ago.
