Advertisement Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Hi Robert J, Take a look here Leica M9 for $1300.00. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
madNbad Posted September 18, 2011 Share #2 Posted September 18, 2011 Looks like a phishing scam for someones' credit card number. If it's too good to be true it probably is.
iphoenix Posted September 18, 2011 Share #3 Posted September 18, 2011 It is a scam. This crowd has tried this on Australian Ebay. They have numerous items at minimal auction starting price, then state "do not bid" but contact us directly and the price is $1300. Here it's been A$1300 on each item. They are in breach of Ebay rules and after having been reported to Ebay, their listings have been cancelled. They use a number of names, but the messages are the same. So far here, they've tried this scam twice with around 20 to 40 listings each. Don't get caught out.
kokoshawnuff Posted September 18, 2011 Share #4 Posted September 18, 2011 report the items like this, ebay is fast shutting them down
andybarton Posted September 18, 2011 Share #5 Posted September 18, 2011 It looks like a genuine eBay account has been hacked. This is a standard modus operandi for fraud. Email outside eBay is a dead give away, if the stupid price isn't. Google should be advised too.
iphoenix Posted September 18, 2011 Share #6 Posted September 18, 2011 Could I suggest this thread be joined to other relevant Forums, including "Collectors and Historica", as these people have "offered" many highly collectable items?
Shade Posted September 18, 2011 Share #7 Posted September 18, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think the listing is real! (Haha)
pop Posted September 18, 2011 Share #8 Posted September 18, 2011 Google should be advised too. That hadn't occurred to me. Why, what and how? I think the listing is real! (Haha) Thought you looked a bit shady.
andybarton Posted September 18, 2011 Share #9 Posted September 18, 2011 That hadn't occurred to me. Why, what and how? Because their email service is being used for fraud. No idea how, but there must be a "Report fraudulent use of the gmail service" button, somewhere.
andybarton Posted September 18, 2011 Share #10 Posted September 18, 2011 I would like to report a Gmail user who has sent messages that violate the Gmail Program Policies and/or Terms of Use. - Gmail Help The listing has been removed by eBay, so I can't see the address any more, but this link above might help close down the gmail account. Shade Posted September 18, 2011 Share #11 Posted September 18, 2011 That hadn't occurred to me. Why, what and how? Thought you looked a bit shady. Damn, I got busted. Andy, I think that's a great idea. But these things are always recurring, and the sad part is, there will be another email for fraud use in another 5 minutes... sigh. andybarton Posted September 18, 2011 Share #12 Posted September 18, 2011 Yes, but Google may be able to block IP addresses from registering new accounts
Shade Posted September 18, 2011 Share #13 Posted September 18, 2011 Then that sounds bad if he did it from a public space.
jaques Posted September 18, 2011 Share #14 Posted September 18, 2011 The questions should have been: 'does anyone think this is NOT fraudulent'. again and again - hope springs eternal....
iphoenix Posted September 18, 2011 Share #15 Posted September 18, 2011 Damn, I got busted. Andy, I think that's a great idea. But these things are always recurring, and the sad part is, there will be another email for fraud use in another 5 minutes... sigh. Then isn't it great that here is a Forum in which people can be alerted to it as it occurs.

earleygallery Posted September 18, 2011 Share #18 Posted September 18, 2011 If someone replies to an eBay ad offering an M9 for $1300, violating all the usual eBay rules, then they almost deserve to lose their money for being that stupid!
pop Posted September 18, 2011 Share #19 Posted September 18, 2011 I have reported it to ebay There a quite a few more offerings, apparently by the same scammer. Just search for "ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY - BUY IT NOW $1800!!!" in the product description. I've just reported about 16 Leica related ones. businessasusual Posted September 19, 2011 Share #20 Posted September 19, 2011 This reminds me of a case of a woman advertising a Mercedes For Sale - $1.00 (Rand as it were). Nobody answered the ad because they thought it was a misprint. Some lucky buyer snapped it up. And her reason - revenge on her ex husband after divorce settlement.
