Advertisement Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Hi bpalme, Take a look here New holster style case.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
thighslapper Posted September 20, 2011 Share #2 Posted September 20, 2011 I'm currently making something similar..... but to go on a belt at waist height.... having this dangling on a neck strap seems to defeat the whole point of it
bpalme Posted September 21, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted September 21, 2011 Well I think I prefer around my neck. Seems like on my belt would be too heavy for the belt. But.. I wouldn't mind a lens case for my belt.
nggalai Posted September 21, 2011 Share #4 Posted September 21, 2011 I'm currently making something similar..... but to go on a belt at waist height.... having this dangling on a neck strap seems to defeat the whole point of it As far as I understand it: You wear the strap over one shoulder, across your chest. The camera rests then under your other shoulder, about at hip height, in the case. If the strap is smooth enough, you can simply grab the camera with the case and “slide” it up to your face. This works pretty well with the standard Leica strap, for example. (Especially after you’ve removed the shoulder pad.) Pretty expensive, but if it works as I imagine it does this might be a great alternative for people who are into SunSnipers/BlackRapid systems. Edit: Hmm. Looking at all the stuff they sell as accessories, I guess the idea is that you take the M out of the case (probably on the wrist strap?) when shooting, not leaving it inside the case? Weird. scsambrook Posted September 21, 2011 Share #5 Posted September 21, 2011 Mmm, not sure whether to laugh, weep, or grind my teeth. Not about the design of the products but about the staggering prices and the five year guarantee so fettered with terms and conditions that it might really be worth little more than the protection of the UK's Sale of Goods Act. Still, I'm just a notorious curmudgeonly (hard-up) skinflint who loves moaning about the things he can't afford . . . Actually, I quite like the idea and would be tempted if the case were not so wildly expensive. Cordura or a similar lined-and-padded material would do the job just as well at a small fraction of the cost when made by some alert Chinese entrepreneur. I wonder if Mr Simons has managed to patent the design . . .?
swamiji Posted September 21, 2011 Share #6 Posted September 21, 2011 The holster does look lovely. Yes, wildly expensive... The Terms and conditions Argh...: Terms: Normal usage is defined as: 1. Using the product as intended - for holding one Leica M series camera and one lens manufactured before 2012. Also defined as not using any camera other than a Leica M system camera manufactured before 2012 inside our cases or hung from our straps and lanyards. Improper use can lead to damage! 5. The owner has not attached any non Fast+Prime products to our cases, straps, lanyards, lens cases or shoulder pads. 6. The owner has not used any Fast+Prime products on non-Fast+Prime systems. Other than mandating the care and feeding, items 5 and 6 seem redundant, and contradictory with item 1... Unless Fast+Prime owns Leica.... :roll eyes:
bpalme Posted September 21, 2011 Author Share #7 Posted September 21, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I don't think a patent would do any good here. There's only a gazillion camera cases out there and this one clearly is just a modified version of Leicas own Titanium M9 holster: Google Images
J_Thompson Posted September 22, 2011 Share #8 Posted September 22, 2011 I'm pretty sure that I can find a better way to spend $545.00 than on this case.
pico Posted September 22, 2011 Share #9 Posted September 22, 2011 FAST+PRIME | The Uhl CollectionSteve Huff says he will have a video review within the next couple of days. Now that one might just work because at the superficial level it still looks like a camera, not a sidearm and retains a strap of a couple kinds which is very useful. In the meantime, I'll leave two Leicas strapped across the chest, lens down. Quit a challenge 'fastandprime' has put up. My compliments to the designer. I'm tempted. If the price were more reasonable.

Gentlemen/Ladies One small correction, It's in Pounds not Dollars. US $844 more or less. Which makes it even more outrageous.
bpalme Posted September 22, 2011 Author Share #12 Posted September 22, 2011 It's £375 which is $580 USD for the vintage... £350 for the black and tan. Don't the Luigis run 4-500 USD? Probably about double what I would be wiling to pay. What I would really like is a case on my belt than would hold one lens.. maybe two.
Fang Posted September 22, 2011 Share #13 Posted September 22, 2011 For that price, I will rather go for the Wotancraft http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/197623-wotancraft-m9-holster.html WotanCraft Atelier I think Wotancraft looks and feel much better than Uhl collection that hangs loosely from the neck. IkarusJohn Posted September 22, 2011 Share #14 Posted September 22, 2011 There is a certain look I'm not comfortable with - keys on an extractor thingy attached to the belt; cellphone in a belt holder. I appreciate that these things are convenient, but to be honest, they make you look like a dick. My Leica is too big for my pocket, so it will either be slung over one shoulder by the strap t was supplied with (it actually sits very discretely and snugly inside my right elbow), or in my bag ready to be pulled out by it's wrist strap. I'm either taking pictures, in which case it's in my hand, or not (but thinking about it) in which case in the bag or over my shoulder. If I'm worried out it sliding off my shoulder, the strap goes over my head. Holster? Nah, don't be daft. Cheers John

WotanCraft is $169 US for case, add a Gordy wrist strap for $20... I was just pointing out the case is more expensive than was mentioned. I would probable get this before a Luigi, because I am not fond of half cases, but the WotanCraft seems a better value.

Well, that's certainly the last thing I need! I'm already stretching things with my plastic shirt pocket protector.

efftee Posted September 22, 2011 Share #18 Posted September 22, 2011 Not sure if this is the right forum to ask, but since I'm using a M9 and intend to check out this case in relation to the M9, here it is. If not, mods, feel free to move. Anyone had any first hand experience with their cases, especially the Uhl Collection (FAST+PRIME)? Thanks
lars_bergquist Posted September 22, 2011 Share #19 Posted September 22, 2011 I canot think of a less practical way of carrying a camera, however much I try. If it is just a matter of carrying the camera, then the regular strap is the way to go (or of course a good bag). If the camera is to have some protection, from the weather, from bumps or from theft, then this one is useless. I carry my camera by the strap, over the right shoulder and under the left armpit. Slightly to the front if I expect action, slightly to the rear for transport. The camera is in a Luigi Crescenzi halfcase if no weather protection is needed. In bad weather, the kit travels in a Billingham, or (if just the body and one lens) in a Crescenzi full eveready case. The diagonal carry has the added advantage that if the strap is adjusted to the right length, you can use strap support to steady the camera for longer handheld exposures. There is of course a technique to that; I learned it during my sniper training, a good place to learn photo tricks. Paul Verrips Posted September 22, 2011 Share #20 Posted September 22, 2011 http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/customer-forum/201575-new-holster-style-case.html It's a beautiful handcraft case, but i prefer carrying my M9 like Lars describes (i call it the Seal way). I bought a half case from mr. Zhou but i never use it. I prefer my M9 naked and i don't care for scratches. Billingham Hadley Large is my prefered traveling case.
