I have purchased an m8 recently and now i want a nice bag for it.

currently i have the m8+28 cron and in the future i might get a 50mm, either lux or cron.. not sure if they differ that much in size.

what cases do you guys think would be fitting, there's no need for much more then just the gear.

there's very little shops that have certrain brands in stock like billingham or thinktank.

so if you could help me with my quest for a nice bag all help is appreciated.

LoL! :D

All kidding aside, the best advice I can give you is to don a flak jacket and use the search function - there are probably more bag threads than any other, particularly here in the Customer Forum. It's a very personal choice, too. Some swear by bags named after macho pursuits ("Black Ops one-five Delta") that make them look like ninja newbies, while others prefer something to go with their tweeds and half-timbered Morris Minors - the Fogg is best suited to them. A third group goes for the post-ironic ("Pie Floater") from people like Crumpler in the fond imagining that people won't think they look like camera bags no, really.

Have a browse and know your own mind.

Regards,

Bill

I prefer an inconspicuous bag, since I shoot a lot in the city at night. I also like to travel light, often with just one body and one lens. I've found that there are lots of good larger bags, but it's more difficult to find a good smaller one.

For years I used a Domke satchel, and liked it well enough that I've now worn it out. I'd need to go look up the model number, but they still make it and I may very possibly get another. It has three compartments plus a slot to carry a small laptop and several smaller pockets.

I'm also intrigued by the new Think Tank Retrospective 5, but haven't had a close enough look yet to make a decision. I use a larger Think Tank bag (an Urban Disguise 35) when I need to haul more stuff on extended travel and it's nice enough, but too bulky for extended street shooting.

Years ago I carried my M2, a 35m Summilux (non asph!), a 90mm Tele-Elmarit and a Weston V meter around in a British army surplus, shoulder bag. It had some basic partitions, I lined one with a duster which the M2 went into, the two lenses went into a pair of socks. I shoved the meter down beside of the camera. That was before I could afford a proper case, I bought a Benser. I was still too nervous to walk around with all this stuff, so I took the compartments out of the Benser and put them back in the army bag. When I was on my bike I used a handlebar bag instead!

These days I use a Billingham Alice, which about the same size and capacity as the Army bag.

Each to their own!

I use an old canvas and leather fishing bag by Brady (£15.00 from Ebay).

The bag comfortably holds an M6, 90mm Elmar in case, 111c, meter, film, and filters and hoods.

I don't do "shoots" as such, so the bag is for storage and transporting only.

WARNING. If you go down this route be sure to pack the floor of the bag with bubble-wrap. Fishing bags are not padded in the way that a purpose-made bag is.

You can buy a Billingham padded insert that will fit a lot of non-camera bags like a Brady. But as far as Brady go you may as well buy a Billingham 'Hadley' because that is the generic origin of the Billingham range, which started with fishing bags.

Provided you can buy one cheaply. That may not be important to others, but I have a family and several hobbies to support........

When I was looking for a decent camera bag a few years ago the 2nd-hand Billingham bags were expensive. 2nd-hand fishing bags were not, although I concede that they have risen in price somewhat since I bought mine. I think they are still around for £30 or so, which makes them a good deal since they will last a lifetime.

BTW, Brady are happy to replace lost straps at no or nominal charge.

I would suggest looking for a camera bag insert and then get any bag you like, which the insert will fit, rucksack, shoulder or whatever takes your fancy. Stealthy and protective of the camera and lenses.

this insert is from domke, and is called the "dslr" i believe. very small, but holds a rangefinder plus 3 big lenses. you can choose your own outside bag for it. (the photo shows someone else's gear).

good luck

I like messenger bags. If you search messenger bag on ebay there's only about 5000 of them. Like said above you can get inserts to go in them. I decided against that though since I can't tell if they would fit perfectly and it would bother me if they didn't.. so I got a crumpler 5 million dollar bag on ebay:

I love it. .. it's perfect for M and a few lenses, flash and accessories.

Smaller would certainly work if you only want two lenses and M.

I guess it depends on your style too..Seems like there is basically the modern bags like the crumpler, the rich old man bags and Indiana Jones bags.:D
