Advertisement Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Hi superwill58, Take a look here leica m summicron 21mm f4. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
k_g_wolf ✝ Posted September 5, 2011 Share #2 Posted September 5, 2011 A SUMMICRON 21 mm lens still has to be designed, there is no lens of f 2 in the 21mm range made by LEITZ/ LEICA. Do you think about a SUMMILUX 21 mm lens ? If other LEICA lenses can be mounted to your OLYMPUS the SUMMILUX would be o. k. too. A 21 mm SUPER- ANGULON (f 3.4) however could be a problem. best GEORG
Michael Geschlecht Posted September 5, 2011 Share #3 Posted September 5, 2011 Hello william, Welcome to the Forum. A Super-Angulon-R 21mm f4 lens can be fitted to a number of cameras w/ the proper adapter. There are other Leitz/Leica 21mm, as well as other focal length, lenses which may be adaptable if the 21/4 above is not the 1 you were thinking of. Leitz/Leica is often a World of minutia & specific terminology. Best Regards, Michael
superwill58 Posted September 6, 2011 Author Share #4 Posted September 6, 2011 thanks guys for the reply... i have double checked, the lens i am thinking should be Leitz Super-Angulon f=2.1cm 1:4...saw the rear extended very deep, so just wonder if it can fit into my EP-2... or i should consider voigtlander ultra wide-heliar 12mm f/5.6? many thanks regards, William
Michael Geschlecht Posted September 6, 2011 Share #5 Posted September 6, 2011 Hello Again William, I don't know anything about the Voightlander lens you mentioned except that Voightlander as a brand is known for making good lenses as is Leitz/Leica. The lens I described above as "Super-Angulon-R 21mm f4" is not the lens you are talking about. This "R" lens # 11813 in R mount began production in 1968 & was designed for use on reflex cameras. The lens you are talking about was designed in 1958 for use on a rangefinder camera w/ shorter back focus to begin w/ before taking into account the added rearward extension of the lens elements themselves. The lens you are talking about is the same focal length (2.1cm) & the same aperture (f4) but is a different lens from an earlier time period. SUOON in screw mount & SUMOM or # 11102 in M bayonet mount. There is additional data on all of these Leitz/Leica lenses in the wiki @ the top of each page. It is called a "21mm Super Angulon f4". For your camera it requires an adapter that allows you to use "Leica M" or 'Leica Thread" lenses, dependent on which version of the lens you have. But there is more: The lens you are writing about has a rear portion that extends beyond the rear of the lens mount. The rear elements almost touch the film/sensor in a Leitz/Leica camera. You need the above mentioned adapter to both attach to whichever variety of the lens you have & also to bring the lens the proper distance from the image plane of your camera so the rear elements don't touch the film/sensor in the camera you want to use it w/ while @ the same time maintaining the proper flange to film/sensor distance. You may or may not require an additional intermediate piece between the adapter & the camera or between the adapter & the lens. Rear flange of lens to film/sensor: 28.8mm Leica screw. 27.8mm Leica M. The R lens which I first thought this might be but it is not needs a 47mm flange to film/sensor distance. Best Regards, Michael
superwill58 Posted September 6, 2011 Author Share #6 Posted September 6, 2011 hello michael, many many thanks for your detail information which helps a lots. you guys are pro let me see if i can get a suitable adapter to fit the sumom into my camera ^^ thanks again and have a good day. regards, William
gyoung Posted September 6, 2011 Share #7 Posted September 6, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) a 21mm leica M mount lens of any sort will give poor results on a m4/3 camera, soft in the corners as the sensor does not cope with short backfocus. There are many threads on this subject which a search will find. Gerry
luigi bertolotti Posted September 6, 2011 Share #8 Posted September 6, 2011 Add also that the Super Angulon 21 f4 (the first 21 mm lens for Leica) is not a strong performer up to today's levels (it did vignette a lot also on old film Leicas)... so I'd say that trying to use it on a micro4/3 digital camera, even if possible, probably leads to disappointing results. gyoung Posted September 7, 2011 Share #12 Posted September 7, 2011 It too will have fuzzy corners, works fine on film butnothing shorter than 50mm works well on m4/3 if its an M mount lens Gerry
