Gift Posted September 1, 2011 Share #21 Â Posted September 1, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Probably we all konw that's the most underrated Leica lens. That's pretty good. We can buy this little gem at very good price, Â If 2,8 is enough, and for most of the situations in daylight is really enough, there's no better option in terms of quality/cost. Â On my M2 is the perfect companion. Â Cheers.
Advertisement Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Hi Gift, Take a look here 50mm Elmar-M thread. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
davidmhol Posted September 6, 2011 Share #22 Â Posted September 6, 2011 The latest 50mm Elmar-M is a great lens, no doubt about it. Â Here are my thoughts on it. The body is a little "over-engineered" compared to the earlier 50mm Elmars. Leica marketed the M6 with this lens as a pocketable camera, going so far as to sell it with a soft pouch case and a one-lug wriststrap. Clearly this outfit is not pocketable in the way that a LTM and early 50mm are. I wouldn't trust my M6 dangling from one lug, thats for sure. So why, apart from a marketing angle, did they make the lens collapsible? Â I love the lens, and I'm happy to live with it's quirkiness, but compared to my (very pocketable) 111c and 3.5cm Elmar the M6 and 50mm Elmar is a brick. MerijnvZ Posted January 19, 2015 Share #23  Posted January 19, 2015 Just bought mine, NOS and sealed from an old Leica dealer. Manufactured in 1996, so may be ready for its first SLA. All black and as sweet as sweet can be. I'm thrilled by its rendering and feel. Though on my M8 it Ãs a little long... Welcome, dear visitor! spydrxx Posted January 19, 2015 Share #24 Â Posted January 19, 2015 I got one shortly after getting an M6 and used it for about a year on the M6 and my trusty old companion, my M4. Its sharpness across the field and contrast really surprised me and I thought I'd not part with it. However, I found I was spending more time collapsing and retracting it than shooting with it, and switched to a Summicron IV, which I kept for 7-8 years. I even sold all of my R gear and most of my M gear. Now, a couple of years later, I've returned to the fold with an M2 and IIf and reverted to guess what....a 50/3.5 Elmar and loving it. octo Posted January 28, 2015 Share #25 Â Posted January 28, 2015 I love the Elmar-M, with it's tiny hood. I use it as travel companion along the 28 mm elmarit ASPH. Â Same here; I have, or have had, several 50mm but somehow got lucky with the Elmar-M: sharper than any other 50 I have, light, and I have become so used to it that the extension side doesn't bother me any longer. Travel kit is that lens on the body (analog Ms) and a Summicron-M 2/28 ASPH in the bag. The latter being also a pleasant surprise. By contrast, I got a 50mm Summicron 6/7 years ago and I sold it back, couldn't get a decent picture with it: flat, no contrast. I just don't know why. . bocaburger Posted January 28, 2015 Share #26 Â Posted January 28, 2015 I've had 2 of them, very sharp initially but then they both got loose and wiggly after a time. And with a filter and the screw-on hood it really wasn't that much shorter collapsed than my Summicron.
IWC Doppel Posted January 28, 2015 Share #27 Â Posted January 28, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I live mine too, superb little lens, it's sufficiently characterful and sharp. The contrast and bite grows with reducing aperture. But it's very good at 2.8. Ergonomically superb and quick to focus
sandro Posted January 28, 2015 Share #28 Â Posted January 28, 2015 I love this beautiful small lens, as I like the old Elmar 2.8/50mm as well. Both are very sharp, nice out of focus rendering, and as someone else wrote, rather underestimated. I use the Elmar-M quite often and it never disappoints me. graphlex Posted January 28, 2015 Share #29 Â Posted January 28, 2015 My black M-Elmar, acquired new, became wobbly after five or six years. But it renders very nicely and so I recently got the chrome version, which is heftier and I hope, sturdier.

I bought mine there too, he seems to have the best Elmar 50's in town and always one or two in stock.

The tube and the part it slides through/locks into are the same.
tobey bilek Posted February 11, 2015 Share #32 Â Posted February 11, 2015 No rule says you need to keep collapsing it. I think it is pointless. Â Just tighten the tabs so it is no longer loose. Â Rendering is beautiful and I will never trade mine.
