Tyranoquake Posted August 30, 2011 Share #1 Posted August 30, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all.. Straight to the problem.. Friend of mine melted when he saw CV35 1.2 perfomance... I have one.. first.. I KNOW..that early Nokton 1.2 have an issue, can't focus @ infinity because the helicoid (coupling) is stuck... So, he actually want to buy a used CV35 1.2... still curious.. If the seller say that nokton can reach infinity focus on a M9... Can that nokton focus properly on a M8?? M9-> ok = M8-> ok ??? thanks before.... cheers Brian Moniaga
Advertisement Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Hi Tyranoquake, Take a look here CV 35mm 1.2 nokton focus can't focus on M8?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Erik Gunst Lund Posted August 30, 2011 Share #2 Posted August 30, 2011 Yes they are identical with respect to infinity focus.
jaapv Posted August 30, 2011 Share #3 Posted August 30, 2011 I had one that focussed perfectly on my M8 - I sold it -and it would not focus on the buyer's M8..
Tyranoquake Posted August 30, 2011 Author Share #4 Posted August 30, 2011 I had one that focussed perfectly on my M8 - I sold it -and it would not focus on the buyer's M8.. Weird isn't?? that's why my friend and I double check the item.. the most safe transaction is COD.. so we can try it first.. So, just like Eric statement.. if you can focus infinity @ M9, @ M8 will be just fine? are you agree?? confused
jaapv Posted August 30, 2011 Share #5 Posted August 30, 2011 I should think so - but am not sure.

LotharZhou Posted August 30, 2011 Share #7 Posted August 30, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) mine works perfectly, my summicron 35 wouldn't focus properly at infinite on m8.
ho_co Posted August 30, 2011 Share #8 Posted August 30, 2011 Does the lens have a sloped cam? If so, that would explain variation from camera to camera.
pico Posted August 30, 2011 Share #9 Posted August 30, 2011 This stuff about lenses not focusing properly is driving me crazy! Am I only person in the world that has a 35mm pre-asph, 75mmm f/1.4 Canadian, and a 50mm Summitar focusing properly on M7 and M9 cameras? Have you all had eye exams? brianv Posted August 31, 2011 Share #10 Posted August 31, 2011 My Two Summarit 5cm F1.5's focus perfectly wide-open on my M8. And they were optimized for F2.8 on film cameras. Sometimes you get lucky.

Sometimes you get lucky. ...Yes... and , funny, me too have two Summarit 50 1,5 : the one in Bayonet Mount does NOT focus right wide open on my M8, the one in Screw Mount, with adapter, DOES... ... exactly the same same happens with a pair of Summicrons 50 retractable... But none of those lenses was ever checked / calibrated.

But none of those lenses was ever checked / calibrated. in my perspective, 1.5 summarit Bayonet-M already has a correct focus on any M.. if you shooting at 1.5 there's no focus point.. all side, corner, center looks dreamy soft... at least 2 or 2.8 you'll get a decent sharpness... 1.5 summarit is "economic version" 1.4 1st gen summilux in my opinion.. both has an equal reading for metering... difference is only a 1/3 stop.. but 1.5 is wacky soft.. fogged lens experience.. conclusion from this thread (w/351.2nokton): If your lens(any type any brands) focus perfectly @ M8... absolutely perfect also @ M9... Guest Holy Moly Posted August 31, 2011 Share #13 Posted August 31, 2011 on the site of Cameraquest the following statement explains details: "Leica M8 Update: The 35/1.2 was introduced in 2003. Once the Leica M8 was introduced in late 2006, some M8 owners reported focusing resistance as the lens focused near infinity. The factory determined this was caused by the rear element guard sometimes binding with the focusing mechanism, and issued a retrofit parts replacement. CameraQuest has only the later 35/1.2's V1's in stock. M8 retrofitting early V1 35/1.2's is $150 + return shipping. A part has to be replaced, and the lens checked over for focus. Average turnaround is 2 to 3 weeks after receipt. NOTE: This occurs ONLY on the VERY EARLY V1 35/1.2's! Most have already been converted."
jaapv Posted August 31, 2011 Share #14 Posted August 31, 2011 The lens I reported on was supplied by Cameraquest in 2007...

This is absolutely not the case for a Summarit 1.5 in good condition. What you describe is caused by deterioration of the lens surfaces.
brianv Posted August 31, 2011 Share #16 Posted August 31, 2011 The focus shift on my two Summarits stands out on the the M8 and M9. Large shift between F1.5 and F4. They are reasonably sharp at F1.5 and quite good at F2.8. My lenses are in reasonably clean condition, had them CLA'd a few years ago to get rid of internal haze. That is the real performance killer on a vintage Summarit. Examples from 2 different Summarits, on the M8 and M3. http://www.ziforums.com/album.php?albumid=113 Examples in color were from a lens "bought for parts", heavy cleaning marks on front. The B&W shots are with my good-user Summarit-M bought for $125.
