This was a great week for me in Palermo. Met LUF friends and very kind new faces and I've had a lot of fun and interesting discussions about our toys and photography. Thanks to Pete for the organization.

Back to a cold and foggy Frankfurt,

Ferdinand

Thanks for all pictures of John (Earl)

The Streetshooter is visible in the third one.

His inner joyfulness is one of the keys for John's impressive portfolios imo.

It can't be ordered on the internet.

We all have close role models and should keep on meeting them in person.

Thank you for the inspiration of one from way yonder.

Next meeting in Le Mans :) . But in October? Anybody a chance there compared to Dirk's pictures? Why not the Challenge next year in May or June, before the summer season, not after?

I really wish I could have made to Palermo, but I couldn't on that exact date.

Best regards,

Simon

I'd be interested to know what lens, shutter speed and iso you used as well Pete as your shots are very crisp in what was a pretty low light situation. I got far to much motion blur at the time.

Nick,

The three of John were: M9-P, 35 Summicron mk4, f/4 iirc, 1/180th, ISO 160, in camera jpeg set to black and white.

The other was: M9-P, 35 Summicron mk4, f/2, 1/24th, ISO 640, in camera jpeg set to black and white.

Pete.

Pete, thank you very much for organizing the event. I very much enjoyed both the city and the people.

And I thought the city most welcoming to visitors:

In Germany it's called a Kamikaze car. Who's driving?

Lars,

Thanks for posting these although, apart from the young lady, you might have chosen a better model.

I agree with you and on both visits I found the people of Palermo to be welcoming and accommodating. I didn't feel unsafe even in the more ancient and poorer areas after dark although, as one would anywhere in the world, I was conscious of who was around me etc.

Here's one back: the girl in St Cataldo's cathedral.

I think part of the anxiety issue is that you didn't have a spouse with you.

No one is prepared to give way on a pavement and definitely not on the roads. I found a lack of courtesy towards others throughout, I'm afraid.

Still, we can't all like the same things or places.

Some great photos of what I missed!

Just a thought - and I thought this in previous years too but it's easier to say now as I wasn't involved in the Challenge this year - I think it may be unfair to some by posting images of the weekend before the Challenge shots have been published. Someone might post a very similar shot to another persons entry, and then we feel that we've seen it before and it seems rather 'stale'.

Apart from shots from the dinner I think there should be a general embargo on posting ones photos from the weekend until the voting is at least open.

I take you point, James, but on the other hand forum members who weren't able to attend are interested in seeing photos from the venue now and waiting until the judging is completed would make them 'stale'.:) Some of the shots posted are from Cefalu rather than Palermo, which is a large city, and it seems to me that it would be unlucky for there to be a cross-over with Challenge shots.

However if a ruling is made I will abide by it.

Pete.
