The only Leica 35mm!!

Ok so since I am at home just outside Zone A (if you have not watched the news, its the targeted area for the big hurricane coming tomorrow) in New Jersey and having nothing better to do, I thought about something crazy in order to make a common, probably boring question a bit more interesting (hopefully).

Imagine you were a modern Nikon or Canon shooter and you were struck by a lightning rod from a Leica God (for being another ignorant follower of mainstream everything) and taken up to the Canon/Nikon Hell (Leica Heaven). The good news is that you would still be able to enjoy photography. The bad news was it could only be with a rangefinder and you were only allowed to shoot one Leica 35mm lens on only one camera (M9) for the rest of eternity...But there is just one catch...You have to go back a few decades and can only pick ONE classic/vintage lens that you will never be able to remove from your M9. what would you go with?

Easy. First version 35lux aspherical with two hand-ground aspherical elements.;) Thread closed because you can't beat it. And yes, I also have the 4th version pre-aspherical cron. Lovely lens, but soft wide open.

That is actually going somewhat against the point of this thread...Subjectivity can't be beat! :p

And, I nearly forgot ... would I be 34?

The forgetful old man

Lars,

From reading many of your posts, you seem ageless so in essence, you can be whatever age you want. Since my favorite number being 28, if I was the Leica God, I would make you 28 forever!

I would say that if I had to get back to 1970, it would be a M4 with the v.2 (#1844000+) 50mm Summilux. Would I also have an inexhaustible supply of Kodachrome, with the little yellow bags?

The old man from the Age of The Above ...

I can go back that far (actually 1968) any time, and get out the M3 and 35mm Summicron with goggles I bought then, and have been using ever since.

Original premise of M9 is flawed, its electronic and doubtful if it will be useable in 40 years never mind 'eternity' :(

Yes but we are talking about Leica Heaven where everything Leica is usable for eternity. This includes old, new and future products. And the best part is that people there get the new Leica products before anyone on earth get them and the better part is that there is no waiting list, you get them instantly and for free!

...after getting back up from being hit by lightning i would pick up my Nikon D3 with 70-200mm 2.8 lens attached and my Nikon FM2n with 50mm 1.4 attached.

They both still work perfectly fine and i keep shooting. The D3 and 70-200 body armor did their job and then some.

I got a free 'haircut' from the experience too.

:D

I am crying that my Leica's rangefinder in my bag is now misaligned do to the 'experience'.

:p

You would not be allowed to use that kind of equipment in Leica Heaven. As a matter of fact, I don't believe you would be able to get in just because you have a Leica. But in the odd instance that you would get in, they would make you use your Nikon and give you a special Tele lens that would see far enough into the real Hell where you would have to take pics of Hitler's behind and nothing more! :p

I would be bored to death in Leica Heaven... so it would be hell because I could not die.

Because its still heaven (albeit a Leica one) you would have no feelings of death and only happiness and if you happen to slip and still for some reason not be happy, there would be accommodations made to cheer you up and sneak you a Nocti! :)

Then the (fantasy) future product would be DMR style back for old Ms with detachable back such as my M3, full frame of course, and an upgrade to fit the M6 lightmeter into it, done free to show loyalty to old customers of course. Then would really be in heaven. :D
