rob139 Posted August 24, 2011 Share #1 Posted August 24, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, After uploading some photo's today (no problem), and a fresh battery inserted in my M8, suddenly all my photos turn out this way! Tried a different batttery, as well as a different SD card. Same fault. Has this problem occurred earlier, do I need to send it to Solms? Camera is 2,5 years old, it's just got a little over 10k exposures, I was hoping for a somewhat longer life... The M8 has been in Solms last year. Thanks in advance for any advice! Advertisement Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Hi rob139, Take a look here Does my M8 have a defective sensor?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Ecar Posted August 24, 2011 Share #2 Posted August 24, 2011 Weird... I'd remove the battery for a few minutes, then re-insert and see what happens. Re-format SD card may help too. Do you have the latest firmware installed? Try updating or re-installing it (if the camera lets you do this). Else, it may need another holiday in sunny Solms:eek:

rob139 Posted August 25, 2011 Author Share #4 Posted August 25, 2011 Sensor/motherboard replacement. One whole ADC/ amplifiying stage has gone on the blink. Thanks for the info Jaap, is this a known problem with this sensor/motherboard? Has this been discussed on this forum? No chance of recovery, is replacement the only solution? jaapv Posted August 25, 2011 Share #5 Posted August 25, 2011 I have not seen this specific one before, even so, trouble with half the image is rare, but not unknown. Only a full replacement of the unit will do -it will not recover. Send the camera to Solms. It depends on the cause whether Leica will treat it as a courtesy repair, but I would not think it impossible.
Erik Gunst Lund Posted August 25, 2011 Share #6 Posted August 25, 2011 Talk about 'half frame camera' Sorry but wow! never seen that one before very surreal!
jaapv Posted August 25, 2011 Share #7 Posted August 25, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I had a magenta cast and noise in one sensor half. That was a new sensor and board as well. It is always a replacement of the whole unit.
rob139 Posted August 26, 2011 Author Share #8 Posted August 26, 2011 It's off to Solms. I was informed that it could be a circuit strip that isn't connected in a good way, or sensor board failure. Well, I guess for digital it's good that the Digilux 2 gets some outdoor time, whereas my M lenses also fit my MP. My Digilux 2 was also troubled with sensor failure, btw. On a sidenote: It was not easy to give my trusty (or not so trusty:o) M8 to an anonymous person in the post office. It is insured, but until it has reached Solms, I will be a bit anxious. rob139 Posted September 1, 2011 Author Share #9 Posted September 1, 2011 Talking about a fast turnaround: this tuesday I already received my M8 back! The Dutch post managed to send it to my address, without sending it to Solms!!! Mistakes happen, didn't hear this one before though! It didn't raise my confidence in sending valuables via post... Needless to say I didn't accept my own package, which felt a bit awkward, I must say. I was torn between getting it in my possession again, getting it out of these incompetent hands, and sending it away again. Well, at last the package seems to be in the destinated country, which is about 10 times as big as The Netherlands... Fingers crossed.
ho_co Posted September 1, 2011 Share #10 Posted September 1, 2011 Sounds as if the postal service is trying to reassure themselves that you really wanted to send the camera in the first place. Good luck!
rob139 Posted September 6, 2011 Author Share #11 Posted September 6, 2011 Today 6th of September: package is still not delivered!! Yesterday, through track and trace came the announcement that the address was incorrect, and they did not deliver. I'm 100% sure that the address is correct, but Post.nl can't do anything, since the parcel is handed over to a different company in a different country. It's now on the road again, but to which address? Nearly two weeks underway, brrr.

rob139 Posted September 6, 2011 Author Share #13 Posted September 6, 2011 Commiserations, but no surprise. I always bite the financial bullet and use Fedex... Thanks Jaap, I will think of Fedex next time around. The camera seems to have been delivered today. It's not in my hands, so let's hope it is indeed in Solms. So now it's waiting for a message from Leica. Rob
rob139 Posted October 11, 2011 Author Share #14 Posted October 11, 2011 Update: Last week my M8 returned from Solms. With a new sensor/circuitboard, which is actually one unit. Leica replaced this unit free of charge, and that is great, since warranty had run out a half year ago. So, two thumbs up for Leica! Turnaround time isn't bad either, it took Leica four weeks to repair and send the camera to it's rightful and again happy owner. One thing I have to get used to again is the loud shutter, I've been using my M2 and MP in the meantime... :roll eyes: Best, Rob
