Magnifiers are very expensive especially considering that the focal lengths I use infrequently and consider that it is money well spent... And complicating the matter ... I wear glasses! stoxa Posted August 18, 2011 Share #2 Posted August 18, 2011 I have a phottix 1.25x magnifier, bought from ebay for about £60 approx 18 months ago, like you I tend to use l a longer focal less frequently, therefore it meets my needs. Any money is wasted on a magnifier, when the lens and camera are not precisely mated to each other. In my opinion, the money for either the Leica magnifiers or the less expensive versions of it is much better spend on your specialist of choice, to adjust camera body and lens to perfectly match each other (that "perfectly" part in the sentence is important) and to have your eye sight checked. The money left over from adjusting your camera and lens won't buy you new glasses, if your sight is out of spec, but at least you have assurance. I shoot fast long lenses without magnifier AND with BAD eye sight, but I match my lenses and bodies and am aware of my eye condition, allowing me, to nail shot by shot … (surprising myself ever so often). Recently with a Canon 85/1.8, wide open at 1m minimum focus for you nature guys (not my usual subject, but a nice focus target after having adjusted the lens): "black Canon 85 1:1.9 RF LTM on M9 close focus @f1.9" bigger on flickr Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
lct Posted August 19, 2011 Share #5 Posted August 19, 2011 The Elmarit-M 135/2.8 is bulky but works well with the M8. Does not need a magnifier down to f/3.5 generally as its goggles have 1.5x magnification already. Will it work a corrective lens for me? (I think that not) I also think the possibility to find a universal viewfinder... Good idea or also wasting money? lct Posted August 20, 2011 Share #8 Posted August 20, 2011 If you wear glasses of 5 diopters strength you would need a +5.5 diopters correction lens that Leica does not sell AFAIK. You might wish to ask them the specs of such a lens to order it to your optician if it is not too thick. Not sure if it would be less expensive than a pair of contact lenses though. I am very happy. I not knowing if with my glasses, was to focus well but it is done quite well ... It feels good on the M8 ... Not too heavy in my bag (about 450 g) and has good contrast ...
