wilfredo Posted August 18, 2011 Share #1 Posted August 18, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) What's the latest on Focus Confirm adapters for R lenses to Canon. I tried one once and the electronic thingy glued to the adapter fell off after removing the lens only twice. Thankfully I was able to get a refund. Has there been any improvement to this technology? I would be using it on a 100mm Emarit R lens. Thanks!
Advertisement Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Hi wilfredo, Take a look here Focus Confirm Adaptors. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted August 20, 2011 Share #2 Posted August 20, 2011 No improvements to my knowledge. The chip is stuck onto the ring. Works fine with my Fotodiox and others. Now i use AF confirm less and less as it is less accurate than a good split image focus screen from f/1.4 to f/4 or f/5.6 when microprisms darken too much. Both work well enough, but they are less useful than one might expect, because Canon puts the focus confirmation green thing too far to the right for my poor vision, and that indication stays on for too little time. I would be very interested to know if a split image screen affects the exposure reading on the Canons. It certainly does on the Olympus E-1. DSLR meters appear to be in the pentaprism area which means above the screen, with consequent inaccurate metering using any but the "proper" screens. Incidentally, I was shocked to find that my expensive Novoflex adapter is not accurate when my 135 Elmarit-R is set to infinity, and f2.8. The cheap Chinese ones, at 1/10 th the price, are spot on! lct Posted August 21, 2011 Share #4 Posted August 21, 2011 I don't expect metering accuracy with R lenses on my 5D1, with or w/o split image screen, but i have no problem from f/2 to f/5.6 generally.

Thanks. I use an external (Sekonic L558-Cine or Calculite X) meter in incident mode, anyway with R lenses on 5D-II or E-xx bodies,
