The 35 lux is a superb lens - heck I have the much maligned mk1 and never has a lens made me so delighted with the results (the canon 85/1.2 being a close second) - so don't let odd forum niggles disuade you. Some fanboys will never believe that.  OK OK, I'm back to eat a big slice of Leica humble pie... sorry Neale.  My 1.4/35 FLE went with my M9 and all my other lenses to Solms for focus calibration as there were a number of problems (including the 35 demonstrating unreliable central focus on subjects at mid-distance and aperture). I did not mention the rattle in the 35 as I didn't think it was an issue and was previously assured by the local Australian service centre that it and the relatively lose aperture ring was nooormaaal.  All has come back perfect:)... and what a surprise, the aperture ring is firmer with more precise half-stop indents and THERE IS NO RATTLE! I still get a lot of Purple fringing where areas are backlit and overexposed and some of it is very difficult to remove even with the CA defringe tool in in photoshop. Â As I process almost everything for B&W purple fringing is almost always an irrelevant issue for me. Â My understanding is that is is not a design fault but a consequence of the limits of the optics of high speed lenses used wide open with the digital sensors. My 21 Summilux also demonstrates this when wide open, as at times do my 50 Summilux and 1.5/50 ZM-Sonnar if pushed. Â The firmware and software to some extent offset this (and I'm told Capture One does a better job that Lightroom but I stand to be corrected). Â Try dropping the magenta slider, and if you're using LR use the red/cyan chromatic aberration slider but just make small changes initially as it takes a second or two to correct the image. nelly Posted September 28, 2011 Author Share #37 Â Posted September 28, 2011 Thanks Mark The hand is out of focus because I was shooting wide open and the focus was on the child's face not hand and this was just a crop of the problem area. I had tried corrections in CS5 using the CA tools in Camera raw to defringe and also in Photoshop by reducing magenta in hue and saturation but on extreme cases like this not much success.
