maccaco Posted August 8, 2011 Share #1 Posted August 8, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all... Sorry to be insistent in this issue but I found an adapter 5 / 6 holes that upgrade the leica lens. Removes the back of the lens and gets it. Has anyone used one? Tyranoquake Posted August 8, 2011 Share #2 Posted August 8, 2011 Don't you waste your money if you're not sure.. Simply I prefer the DIY 6 bit coding.. Only need a black marker(fine tip), coding code which easily found @ google, and 5 minutes of luck..
ramosa Posted August 8, 2011 Share #3 Posted August 8, 2011 Never seen one of these devices. Coding versus not coding for me would be a matter of the focal length of the lens. If it's a 28mm or 35mm, I would get it coded. You could do it with a device like this, but I think I'd send a lens to a repair person to have it actually coded. For a lens over 35mm, you really won't see substantial benefits of coding, unless you really want to have the exif data transferred. (I haven't bother with my 80mm lens, but it's my only uncoded lens, so I know a photo is from this lens if there is no exif data.)

So far I've coded my lenses using a Dremel and Black (Matt) and White paint. I haven't yet coded my MATE as at the time I couldn't find the appropriate code for it. I just may get around to buying one to try it. ____________________ Regards, Tom
lct Posted August 11, 2011 Share #5 Posted August 11, 2011 ...I found an adapter 5 / 6 holes that upgrade the leica lens... Are you sure they sell 6-holes adapters? I see only 5 holes in your link and most of my lenses have 6 screws hence my question.

And be prepared to do it again and again if you change often your lenses, w/o forgetting to clean out the bayonet, the 6-bit sensor and the camera mount each time. Bit of a pita for me, to the point that i bought a mini dremel and did an ugly DIY work on my little CV 21/4 P, but it works like a charm since then. maccaco Posted August 12, 2011 Author Share #13 Posted August 12, 2011 Ah yes thanks. zhwksweden ebayer has answered the following ... "Hello, it takes 3-4 weeks to order 6 hole version adapters for 28/90 and 50/75 or 35/135. Thanks" I think that I will ask the 50-75 for my SUMMICRON 50, and see if it goes well ... Bobitybob Posted August 13, 2011 Share #15 Posted August 13, 2011 You could look at Classic Cameras in London who offer a 6 bit coding service for Leica, CV and Zeiss. Not many details and a little expensive, but if done correctly may be worth the additional cost. Here's the e-mail address Leica Cameras, Summarit, Voigtlander, Zeiss, Minox Binoculars - Classic Camera Ltd UK.
maccaco Posted August 13, 2011 Author Share #16 Posted August 13, 2011 Thank you maccaco No problem!... You're welcome. I made an offer to the ebayer by 50/75 (6 holes). RobertJRB Posted August 14, 2011 Share #19 Posted August 14, 2011 I don't really see the big advantage of this one.., 100 dollar for a peace of metal... doesn't the official leica coding cost the same? About 100 dollars? And for the non leica lenses, coding an 28/2.8 zeiss by Will van Maanen (Holland) costed me 80 euro's. Just send the lens and have it back within a week time. lct Posted August 14, 2011 Share #20 Posted August 14, 2011 New bayonet or old one with new notches? Matter of tastes. I prefer keeping the original one as is personally. Now remains to see how this new bayonet works actually.
