Hi I'm just bought one Summicron-m 50mm f2 v4 and found few masks which can see only reflect with light in the right angle otherwise cannot see as pictures I tried to show here.

one can see and other cannot see due to the light reflection moved.

Any advise would be very appreciated.

Choun, if you have to work that hard to see it, it's probably not that important. :)

Could be fungus, but to me it looks more like a wisp of thread.

In the picture, there seem to be two stalks and a loop. Do they all seem to be at the same distance (i.e. all on the same surface)? Because of focus, it looks as if the loop runs in a plane perpendicular to the two stalks. If so, it isn't fungus.

Usually, fungus is tighter in pattern and more extensive, as in Doc Henry's link above.

Whatever it is, in its current state it won't affect your pictures because it's so unobtrusive.

I wouldn't worry; if it's fungus, it'll get worse, but it'll be a long time before it intrudes on your images.

Dear Howard and my other kindly guests,

Yes, it no effected to the picture at all and as you see, it very difficult to find, so it not worry me on quality of the picture.

But it does worry me whether it fungus or not or what I have to do to prevent the further damage or even it will infect to my other lens or not.

I'm very less experience with a fungus that why I need to bothering your people here which always a useful place to get good information.

Thank again and to make my post more cear, I did do the red circles on the suspected fungus as below.

Hi Choun, it's more like a haired of cotton as a fungus. or something of that kind (cleaning by a previous owner ?) or is it a micro scratch ?

It should not affect the picture!

Should be watched to see if it extend or not : if fungus propagation will be centrifuge

If you want, you can ask to clean the lens by a Leica specialist !

Best

Dear Henry,

These things are not opaque, if the background not black then totally can not see.

And it can see when the light reflected in the correct angle (most properly direct 90 degree from the top), from my original post, the second picture is the effect after I moved the light source to left side (focus distance remained same as first picture) then no visible. (this effect may be what Howard try to tell me)

How it visible, as show in picture, it shining like it reflection from the light source.

If all of you very sure that it might not be the fungus then it reduced my worry and I will keep an eye on it. Thank you.

Choun.

Dear Choun,in clinical, I look at the fungus on the skin with an ultraviolet lamp

Try to see if it becomes phosphorescent !

As i said above, watch and monitor it !

frankly I do not think it is a fungus but I could be wrong

it does not prevent you from taking pictures with this good Summicron

Best
