Jeff S Posted July 14, 2011 Share #21 Posted July 14, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) My above comments was response to "gfspencer" post^^ I bought my M8 and paid $2400 with 6 months warranty, near mint condition. You paid $3400 for pre-owned body and that's $1000 more, IMO M8 and M8.2 are no different to taking picture. I have no desire to debate you on camera choices. Glad you like yours. My comment related solely to your pricing example of an M8.2 at $3970. Mine was $570 less; strictly a point about price, not about value or worth. People have to make their own assessment. Advertisement Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Hi Jeff S, Take a look here M8 upgrade or M8.2. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
john_newell Posted July 14, 2011 Share #22 Posted July 14, 2011 I have had an M8 for 3+ years and have never seen the sense in getting the upgrade. The improved screen would bring me no benefit (as I already use a Giotto screen protector), and the slightly quieter shutter just isn't worth the upgrade cost for me. If I were to put more money into my equipment, I'd get an M9, but I haven't been swayed to do that yet. Precisely my experience and perspective. One of the biggest benefits for me (using M8.2) is the 2m frame lines. Best I've ever used, and I had film Ms for decades. Too bad Leica didn't continue these with the M9 (Sean Reid agrees.) Again, this is just my personal choice...not a judgment about what should suit others. Just wanted to raise the issue of frame lines, since your comment omitted these. gfspencer Posted July 17, 2011 Share #25 Posted July 17, 2011 The full upgrade is $1,845 (approx, Euro 1320.00) plus shipping and waiting 2-4 weeks without camera The full upgrade is $2,150 if you send your camera to New Jersey.

It isn't a big plus for me (as I just got used to things as they are), but I can understand how others may really like it. I was surprised that Leica didn't continue the different framelines to the M9 ...
