M8 and M9 base stickers

Upon receiving my mint M8 I immediately noticed the ugly Leica sticker under a protective plastic coating on the base of the camera. I removed it which I guess makes my camera no longer mint. I have a mint M9 on the way and might think a bit before I take similar action. What is the general practice with Leica M owners ?

My M8 from first batch still has it, but it is no where near mint after close to 5 years use. Nobody sees it under the plate. Besides, it shows what certifications it has.

End of the day, it does not really matter to me whether it is there or not. So, I would not worry about much.

If you use it it will be no longer mint in any case of course.

Purely for collector purposes you probably needed to just shrinkwrap the whole unopened package and place it in your climate controlled vault for a few hundred years

Using it is the best thing to do with it :)

Besides that little sticker is where they seal the Solms magic in... yours may have leaked out now :D

best not let any more 'Leica magic' leak out. I love finely made devices and it does seem a shame to degrade the overall ascetic with a crappy sticker, even if it is unseen on the base. Still, when people inquire as to the difference between my two cameras, I will at least be able to reply that the M9 has a sticker on the bottom :D

I think I still even have the transparent film under my M8. I'm not often used to look at the bottom of my camera :D

Ah, it didn't really grab my attention as much as the "red" sticker on the front of the camera that would look better IMHO in "black".

That said, I'm not going to go to the trouble to make it black so its really not got my attention either.

Different strokes for different folks. Yes?

The sticker is uneven because of the card with all the certifications under it. I took mine off because I like to set the camera on table tops, fences and parking meters for slow shutter speeds, and with the sticker, it would wobble.

Tripods? We don't need no steenking tripods... :-)

I'm sure I've reduced the resale value. But since I will probably shoot this camera as long as it lives, so what? Half of what goes on in the Leica world makes no sense to photographers. I shoot mine.

Yes, remove it. It's ridiculous that Leica do not put this label on the inside, behind the removable base plate. You can buy label removing solvent from the likes of Staples which is much less aggressive than other solvents recommended here - forum members have a particular fondness for acetone.
