Washington Posted July 6, 2011 Share #1 Posted July 6, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) A pig in a poke for sure because there was no description of what it was for. I had a bunch of eBay bucks stored up so it only cost me small change. Does this look familiar to anyone???? Welcome, dear visitor! gyoung Posted July 6, 2011 Share #2 Posted July 6, 2011 Is it the C mount thread on the back? In which case its something to C mount, and at that length the only think I can think of is Visoflex to C? I presume you have a 16mm film camera to put it on Gerry
Washington Posted July 6, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted July 6, 2011 Oh, so thats what a C mount is! No problem…. I’ll end up using that tube for something. The mount doesn’t bother me as that I can change. Thanks!

Robert_M Posted July 6, 2011 Share #5 Posted July 6, 2011 Rip, Is it marked as a "CEBA" mount? Or, "CExxxx" where xxx is something else? A good source for you is the link Lens mount - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Which lists all sorts of lens mount specifications. Novoflex is not on the list but does have a focal flange distance of 100mm. With that info, you can think up another project for that piece of metal.... Washington Posted July 7, 2011 Author Share #6 Posted July 7, 2011 RM, I do not have it here yet, but I will know more then. Thank you for the info.
Washington Posted July 7, 2011 Author Share #7 Posted July 7, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) RM, From what I can gather just from the photo above the front of the adapter is the standard Novo Ring Bayonet mount…. works like the old Canon FD. there are three threaded sections with set screws. I have a feeling I’m going to be making one hell-of-a extension tube for my bellows + 600mm Hummingbird close-up rig!!!
doubice Posted July 7, 2011 Share #8 Posted July 7, 2011 Rip, If the front of the adapter is a Novoflex breech lock, what you have purchased may very possibly be an adapter to mount Novoflex telephoto lenses to 16mm movie cameras with a C mount. No worries - there are excellent buys on 16mm Paillard Bolex and Beaulieu these days... Quite possibly, you may even find a C mount to Arriflex adapter and thus enter into the world of superbly crafted Arriflex.... Your Visoflex escapades will fade in comparison to what you can accomplish by entering into the 16mm motion picture camera world! Best, Jan
Washington Posted July 7, 2011 Author Share #9 Posted July 7, 2011 Jan, No doubt you are exactly correct in that the ring on the front is for tightening the lens bayonet. But what interests me are sizes of the threads on/in the two tubes in between the bayonet and the removable (also threaded) rear plate/C-mount assembly. (this is how I have fun)
Washington Posted July 7, 2011 Author Share #10 Posted July 7, 2011 Yeah Jan, Back in the days when me and D.W.Griffith hung around the Brown Derby getting sloshed and talking shop…. we never mentioned that 16mm stuff as it didn’t exists. Hell, we had to buy our cameras from Europe and lay low to avoid Edison’s lawyers. Ahhhhh…..dem was the days!
Robert_M Posted July 7, 2011 Share #11 Posted July 7, 2011 Rip, When I look closer at the photo, this could be an adapter for the earlier model Novoflex Pigriff A. The original Pigriff has a flange to focal plane distance of 100mm and the output is a 39mm LTM section. For the longer adapters to cameras, the adapter is in two pieces (like your photo). The first section is a PITUB-J which is just an extension tube and the interface is still 39mm LTM (LEI-P using Novoflex terminology). The next section is then the CELEI-P adapter (my guess at the name since I don't have the adapter sheet in front of me). The total length of this must be about 82mm to get the focal plane distance right. That looks about right from the photos. The LTM interface is very clever and not just a simple 39mm LTM thread. It is actually a slightly different, female ~40mm standard thread (not 1mm pitch if I remember right) in the body and into this is a tube with matching male thread at one end and male 39mm LTM (ie 26 tpi) at the other end. The 3 set screws at the side then lock it in place. This differential screw arrangement allows one to reposition the starting point of the 39mm LTM male screw so that any adapter attached is now oriented correctly. This interface is used at both the main Pigriff body and at the backend of the PITUB-J. It looks like there is a similar arrangement at the C mount end with the male 1"-32tpi thread coming out. I bought an old Novoflex Pigriff A system that came with the PITUB-J and a EXLEI-P adapter intended for the exakta system. I interfaced to my Visoflex by ignoring all these adapters, using a 39mm LTM extension tube and a standard LTM-M mount adapter. Just the right spacing then. Well, I've stuck my neck out with this guess based on one picture. When you get the thing in hand you can flog me with the truth..... RM
gyoung Posted July 7, 2011 Share #12 Posted July 7, 2011 Gasp. somebody who speaks Novoflex as well as Leica..... Gerry
Washington Posted July 7, 2011 Author Share #13 Posted July 7, 2011 Gerry, Wow! I too was blown away by the wealth of info provided by RM above! I have not written him back yet as I am waiting for my morning head to clear out. Between Viso adapters AND Novo stuff one could easily become straight-jacket material me thinks. Robert_M Posted July 7, 2011 Share #14 Posted July 7, 2011 Well I didn't set out to learn Novoflex language. It was acquired by necessity. There isn't a good source of information on the web for info on all these follow focus systems. The information is scattered all over in various news groups and minor postings. And, I seem to have acquired several systems when I found prices which were too irresistible to pass up. For example, I picked up a 300mm Novoflex with Pigriff A and leather case for under $100. I didn't really need it but it is fun to play with. What I've gotten as bonus is misc paperwork in some systems. So I now have instructions, catalogs and price sheets from decades ago. I really should put some web pages together and share this info in one place to help others. RM

doubice Posted July 7, 2011 Share #17 Posted July 7, 2011 Rip, I just took the liberty to search eBay's completed auctions for your adapter. As per the auction text, you have PITUB-J and WEBLEI-P-16..... Maybe with Robert's help you'll find out what you really have and thus how to cannibalize it to fit whatever you may wish to fit it to... Michael Geschlecht Posted July 7, 2011 Share #18 Posted July 7, 2011 Hello Everybody, There is a Novoflex adapter for adapting C mount cine & video cameras to the PIGRIFF-C which is designated CEA-C. If it is that there are tons of C mount adapters to everything out there. Best Regards, Michael
Washington Posted July 7, 2011 Author Share #19 Posted July 7, 2011 Jan, Well golly, thanks for your interest! I wish I had a chart like the Leica Viso charts that list the Novoflex adapters!
doubice Posted July 7, 2011 Share #20 Posted July 7, 2011 Rip, A quick Google search came up with these: Das NOVOFLEX-System by Photo but More and NOVOFLEX ADAPTER WEBLEI GERMANY 2/11 | eBay and NOVOFLEX ADAPTER WEBLEI GERMANY M-39 AN D-MOUNT 2/11 | eBay - use Google translator if German is not your cup of tea.... If a Novoflex adapter code word contains 'LEI', it is used in some way on a Leica thread mount. 'LEI-M' would indicate M mount use, 'VIS' Visoflex use etc. In a way, once you get used to it, it is simpler than Leica's number system.... The only problem is that, just like Leica's original code word system (cca. pre-1950), it is based on the German language. So - as an example - 'VISBA' probably is an adapter to be used for a Visoflex and bellows and you will have to know that 'BA' stands for 'Balgengerät' (bellows in German)...... Good luck!
