1) Label your bottles of chemicals correctly. You might find that the film hasn't come out very well, not because it is 4 years expired, but because the bottle labelled "Fix" is in fact Diafine B and you've just developed your film twice and effectively poured £20 down the sink. :o

2) Make an Aide Memoire. That way you might remember that you should check the temperature of the developer before pouring it in. :o Fortunately, it's so mild in the UK today pure chance had my chemicals at 20C. I know because I stuck the thermometer in 30 secs before the end of development. :o Film 2 seems to have come out perfectly.:)

3) Keep your mistakes to yourself lest you become the focus of internet ridicule.......DOH.

Worse yet, the bottle labeled developer actually has fixer. The film will look like window glass. I had a friend who did this with wedding pictures. His first thought was to emigrate to Mozambique.

...I doubt emigration would help with the internal dark clouds and general doo-doo associated with such an eventuality. Wouldn't wish it on my best enemy - it just ain't right.

And remember that old Rodinal looks just like Guinness in the darkroom.

Hi pico

good point...

Dont allow food and dev chemicals near one another, gloves for liquids, add face mask and googles or safety glasses for powders.

Best to avoid powders.

Dont use Metol devs if you have allergies or any one in family has had allergies or exama.

Simplify procedures e.g.

load film into spirals drop into multi tank

temper water to 20C

add rodinal 1:100

pour in mixture

leave for 120 mins, set kitchen timer

etc...

Ilfords how to is good

a checklist is good
