I work for an airline and we found an M9 on one of our aircraft. I'm a photographer and am trying to find it's owner as i'm sure he's upset about losing it. It's all black and still had the plastic on the bottom it's so new. The serial number starts with (O or D) D95E. If it's yours you'll have to quote the rest of the serial number to prove it and tell us what you took pictures of on your trip to Canada. The camera was found in a Canadian City but we think the people who own it spent time in Whisler and Toronto. We think the person could be from Buenos Aires as they took a few pics of a billbord advertising that city. (just a thought) If you can help us reconnect this camera with it's owner I'm sure the owner will thank you.

Hi,

The numbers on the flash shoe are very square , but I can't see any of them looking like an E. Also the D will be zero, but i can't see an M9 starting 095... more likely 395...

Thanks for raising this here, I hope the owner is looking!

John

Doesn't look like a Leica serial number (this should be on the hotshoe on the top of the camera). In any case, what you are doing here is great!

Are you sure you're reading from the proper end?

Leica serial numbers don't contain letters and don't start with 0.

If you're holding the camera wrong way around, the numbers you cite are probably an upside down version of "3560," and are the last digits, not the first.

Thanks for posting here. Very thoughtful of you. Or is the thread a joke?

Maybe we should require all new forum members to bring cameras for giveaway! :)

That is too funny, The serial number works both ways. so ya, the last 4 digits are 3560. I'm sure someone can figure out the first three now, lol oh well there are lots of other ways to identify the true owner.

I do work for the airline and we've been looking for an owner for over a month now. we havent had anyone submit a claim and this is our last ditch attempt to figure out the owner. The camera only found it's way to my desk when our front line people figured out how valuable it was. Not a joke. we will donate the camera to a charity if we don't find the owner. (company policy)

It's times like these that restore my faith in humanity. It's not even my camera but I am grateful for someone like you - who has persevered and is taking the time to find owner. May wonderful things happen in your life! Thank You!

Good luck to you.

Both Leica USA and Leica Germany maintain records of registered cameras, so if the owner registered it, they'll have a record. (USA office will be closed tomorrow for Fourth of July holiday.)

It's very nice of you to leave no stone unturned in the search.

(Your airline must give good service if the owner didn't think to notify you of the loss. Musta been one happy camper. ;) )

I'm sure that if the customer hasn't registered, Leica still know which camera was sent to which dealer and that in turn, that dealer should keep a record to whom the camera was sold.

What about the lenses? It may be possible that this person has registered the lenses with Leica, or even if they were bought second hand, a previous owner may be registered and could tell to whom it was sold.

Anyway the effort you seems to be putting into this is admirable. Thanks for that !

Ian

Could the passenger list be looked at again? Where was it found, what seat, what section, which overhead bin? Notify the airline's legal department to make sure you are doing/ have done all the necessary procedures before donating. Because passengers don't know that donating lost items from the plane is airline policy--and if that policy was not written or was not given to the passengers, airline may have to compensate for the lost items if the passenger takes legal action.

If you give me the serial numbers for the body and lenses, I will let you know if they're the same as the M9 and lenses I lost on a plane recently :D
