Jon Pop Posted July 2, 2011 Share #1 Posted July 2, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone: I'm new to the forum, and was hoping someone out there could clarify for me whether or not I can actually fully use a Summicron 50mm dual range on my Leica MP. There are so many conflicting reports and opinions out there...some say yes, others say you must focus to infinity before mounting, others say goggles won't work, etc. I know the optical formula is similar or the same as the rigid; the reason for my desire to have a DR is partially the close focus (though that's less of an issue) but just because of the collectibility, design, and also because if a good deal came along I'd grab it....but ONLY if it's going to work, fully as designed, without any acrobatics, on my MP (which is probably from around 2004). I have a 1972 Summicron 50 already, and if I get an M9 I'll use this on it because I know the DR doesn't work properly on digital M cameras. Any gurus out there with 'the word' who can help me? Are there any difference is serial numbers as well that may be relevant to fit on the MP? Cheers! Jon

Jon Pop Posted July 2, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted July 2, 2011 Thanks...I'd seen that thread and it seemed like a lot of debate back and forth with no clear statement....though a lot of it was about the M9. I was mostly wondering about fit with my MP (which I think is the most similar to an M3 but internally with the lens mount etc I have no idea). Anyone else out there using a DR on an MP? Posto 6 Posted July 4, 2011 Share #4 Posted July 4, 2011 Used one on my MP for a couple of years with no problem, although both items have since been sold for other reasons. There should be no issues at all with the MP.

andybarton Posted July 4, 2011 Share #6 Posted July 4, 2011 My DR binds at infinity on my MP (so I don't use it on that), but works perfectly on my M2 and M7
Posto 6 Posted July 4, 2011 Share #7 Posted July 4, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) My DR had a very high serial number (1968 if I remember correctly). I believe that there are differences with the earlier goggles and fittings. My MP was in the 301XXXX range (don't remeber exact #).
