wattsy Posted June 22, 2011 Share #21 Posted June 22, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Seems like a sensible lens to be introducing now the F2.8 has been discontinued. MTF charts notwithstanding, I guess the proof will be in the eating - particularly with regard to red edge, etc.
Advertisement Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Hi wattsy, Take a look here Leica Super-Elmar-M 21 mm f/3.4 ASPH. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted June 22, 2011 Share #22 Posted June 22, 2011 The drawing shows no filter thread... "Female thread for screw-on filters size E46" http://en.leica-camera.com/assets/file/download.php?filename=file_5714.pdf
Xmas Posted June 22, 2011 Share #23 Posted June 22, 2011 Hi One wonders when the 14mm will be released, hopefully we wont have to wait until next June. Noel
hoppyman Posted June 22, 2011 Share #24 Posted June 22, 2011 The text says that it has a standard internal thread for E46 and external thread for the metal hood. The same arrangement as for the Elmar M 24 ASPH and the Summilux M 35 ASPH (new). There should be a blank that covers that external thread if you don't want to use the provided hood (eg, you wanted to use a filter that was too big for inside the hood). The drawing shows no filter thread though, so assuming that you want to use a filter......
Robert_M Posted June 22, 2011 Share #25 Posted June 22, 2011 There is a thread in the M9 Forum which discusses the apparent lens code for this new lens. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/187653-another-m9-lens-code-revelation.html It would be helpful if someone who has actually seen the new lens (in particular its flange) can verify this code. In that thread, I've run some quick tests of the (apparent) lens code firmware correction on a CV 21/4 lens and compared the correction to other 21mm lens code corrections. That gives some indication of the amount of firmware correction that is being applied. RM
250swb Posted June 22, 2011 Share #26 Posted June 22, 2011 It would be helpful if someone who has actually seen the new lens (in particular its flange) can verify this code. I would have told you that tomorrow when I picked mine up from my local dealer. Alas there seem to be severe quality control problems with the two lenses they received. When held in the hand the focus mechanism works smoothly, but when mounted on a camera the focus ring locks up and is very hard to turn. I can't think what could cause this but its not a good start. akiralx Posted June 23, 2011 Share #28 Posted June 23, 2011 I'm really interested in this lens as it could replace my 24 Elmar in my travel kit for Europe in August: 21 Elmar 35 Summilux-ASPH I 75 Summarit. Nice and light and easily fits in a small bag. But would I notice a clear difference in coverage between 24 and 21mm? The other question is what additional body to take as backup: M5 or M7? The former is perhaps more robust, the latter is faster.
menos I M6 Posted June 23, 2011 Share #29 Posted June 23, 2011 I'm really interested in this lens as it could replace my 24 Elmar in my travel kit for Europe in August: 21 Elmar 35 Summilux-ASPH I 75 Summarit.
