Then he was talking nonsense.

But then, so are you. There are neither Leica binoculars nor Leica lenses carrying a "qm2" designation. As far as I can tell, it's just nonsense altogether. Wonder how the original poster came to ask ...

Because, as you can see by the link, camera resellers advertise these binoculars as such. Why they do so and what it means is something else, and I know that as little as you do. Maybe designation has to do with the number of funnels.

Maybe it is meant to indicate the "second", current version of that binocular. As far as I know, this line of binoculars did have the HDC coating from the very beginning, but the Aquadura coating was added only later. Just a guess though.

And yes, they go well on the Queen Mary, too.

It's a silly story told to the gullible who shop at the Queen Mary Cruise ship gift shop.

If you buy a Hermes bag, a Leica camera, etc., they tell the tourists some nonsense story that they are getting a special "ultra high quality" select of the camera or bag which is only sold to "special" people, such as themselves.

It's like when you call a Brooklyn camera store and they tell you that most stores sell a "plastic" frame camera, but they have the best "metal frame" camera for sale at a higher price.

So the owners think they have something special called the "QM2" model.

They just have an ordinary item, bought at a ridiculous price.

For some strange reason I’m hearing Lou Reed singing in my mind – “He’s never early, he’s always late / First thing you learn is that you always gotta wait / I’m waiting for my man” – thinking it’s about M lenses …

He is a lens dealer.

I still can’t get the Velvet Underground out of my head … “I’m feeling good, feeling so fine / Until tomorrow, but that’s just some other time” – it must be about the post-lens-buy experience, what else?

Seriously off topic, but I never thought I would hear anyone reference Lou Reed in a Leica forum. Or the Velvet Underground! I hadn't thought about these tunes for years!

Thanks

The QM2 ocean liner's onboard marketing agreement is with Swarvoski (a Leica competitor), so I doubt the qm2 designation has anything to do with the ship - especially in lower-case letters.

according to this site: Verrekijker Show Aanbiedingen

"QM2 Leica models are new with full warranty. with possible minor cosmetic defects in the lining of the viewer."

i.e. factory seconds

Hi there, first post on here but I have just returned from a trip to New York on the QM2 and in the camera shop onboard they had a V-Lux 20 and an X1 for sale. None of them were branded QM2. Oh and none of them tempted me, I'm very happy with my D-Lux 5.;)

Alex.
