Rick in CO Posted June 15, 2011 Share #1 Posted June 15, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Here's a recent shot with a 5cm f2 Summitar lens #734,078 c.1949 on my M9 (at f2.0). This lens was purchased by my Dad and used by my Uncle before finding its way to me. Not bad for a 60 year old-plus lens? Can't wait to try it at a wedding! MarkP Posted June 15, 2011 Share #4 Posted June 15, 2011 Draws the image in a very soft and sublte way. Thank you for posting this. Is there haze on any of the lens elements? I have also just been given the same lens (c1948 with IIIc) by a relative. It's in for a CLA (badly needed) Am looking forward to using it on the M9 but I don't think I'll try retracting it..does anyone know whether this is safe to do? Ecar Posted June 15, 2011 Share #5 Posted June 15, 2011 I always leave my old Summar, Summitar or Summicron extended (some tape or rubber band helps avoid inadvertently collapsing them). Worth the hassle IMO, as a good copy of the Summitar produces very pleasing images - particularly portraits. Also, there have been several versions, so it's hard to say whether one particular lens is safe to collapse or not without actually measuring it and/or carefully trying to collapse it. 250swb Posted June 15, 2011 Share #6 Posted June 15, 2011 It is perfectly safe to collapse a Summitar on an M9. Steve

Rick in CO Posted June 15, 2011 Author Share #8 Posted June 15, 2011 Is there haze on any of the lens elements? Yes, very slight haze internally, only visible with a strong oblique light, that I have refrained from having cleaned.
