koray Posted June 13, 2011 Share #1 Posted June 13, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) This Summicron 50 on an ebay auction looks pretty weird to me. What is wrong with it? Mix and match focus mount and head? Looks cool, though. Welcome, dear visitor! luigi bertolotti Posted June 13, 2011 Share #2 Posted June 13, 2011 Yes, an odd lens... looks like the head of a Version 1 - 7 elements lens (s/n from 1965) fitted onto the focus mount of a Version 2 (introduced 1969 - focus to 0,7m - no knob). Luigi, I've never seen a chrome Version 2, is there such thing? K.
luigi bertolotti Posted June 13, 2011 Share #4 Posted June 13, 2011 Apparently, no... Summicron V2 is black... even the rather recent "specials" in chrome (LHSA, Rooster, "50 years") have different mounts... but whoever has put ensemble the lens for sale on ebay can have made some job... ... I should be curios to inspect it...
cbretteville Posted June 16, 2011 Share #5 Posted June 16, 2011 Serial number, allocated in 1965, is that of a type II (Rigid) Summicron, the aperture ring too. The focusing mount is from a type III, but as it was only made in black this must be a custom job. Carl
koray Posted June 20, 2011 Author Share #6 Posted June 20, 2011 Well, it is gone now, for £632. I wonder if the silver mount was chrome or just a paint job? For a while I thought this lens could be a prototype, but maybe not? K.

luigi bertolotti Posted June 20, 2011 Share #8 Posted June 20, 2011 May be a first batch like for the Summicron R 50 silver. with s/n 2.140.xxx ? too early for a 0,7m lens, I'd say... (btw... I tried to bid, but stopped when saw the price climbing...)
sabears Posted June 20, 2011 Share #9 Posted June 20, 2011 Suspicious lens, no story behind AFAIK...I know of a preseries lens with this focusing ring but with some differences. It was sold years ago in USA. This one should be born from two different parts linked.
jc_braconi Posted June 20, 2011 Share #10 Posted June 20, 2011 This one should be born from two different parts linked. I tried to duplicate it, it does not work, limited focusing 1 o 1.2 m due to different lens head size
