Also, I wonder which $500 DSLR he keeps referring to that has better dynamic range, noise control, and (what he seems to imply as) over-all image quality, than the M9.

Obviously I am buying the wrong camera......

Amen, nothing like an open letter out of left field. First off no one makes a sensor that can hold a candle to the M9 in the budget enthusiast bracket, +1.5k yes, but any Micro 4/3rds or budget APS-C, no.

Secondly I've been using this camera for six months now and don't concur with a single point besides that which Leica obviously already is working on (LCD/Sensor/Responsiveness), every last point just points back at the writer to stick with DSLR or EVIL cameras and leave the critiques of rangefinders for those who do or actually would use Rangefinders. If you want a cheap rangefinder beg Cosina; and tell them to keep shortsighted Epson out of it this time.

Yawn .. It's just repeating what's posted here most days.

Actually, IMHO, I much prefer what is posted here on this forum - usually with wisdom and relativity, plus some humor - to his agressive and pointless whining.

Indeed, he should dump his Leica, get a point&shoot and be over it.

Cosina will have a non competitive contract with Epson that may still have years to run, when this expires then they could market a later technology digital camera, in effect a RD/1 follow on.

But they would need to see a market niche, either big profit margn or big volume.

Their R&D people may have it already, locked in a cabinet.

Noel.

Lots of people buy the M9. Why? It is a reduced to a minimum high quality camera. Very expensive indeed, but, as the results show, not too expensive for many people. The M9 brought Lica back on track. An option could be an a la carte version with different viewfinders.

My open letter to Porsche:

To Whom it May Concern:

Please make your 911 car better. There is no reason it should look anything like a 50 year old design that is reminiscent of a VW. And what is with using the emergency 911 number for its name? Get rid of it and come up with something cooler sounding like USAF jet names are.

Why can't it be over 550 HP like the Cadillac Roadster? Plus it is ridiculous that in this day of increasing fuel prices that it can't get at least 40 miles-per-gallon like I can with my $15,000. Hyundai Elantra. BTW, why even make a car with a manual transmission? Automatics have been around for ages, so get rid of the manual shift option and bring your car into at least the 2oth century. Also, you do not have enough cup holders, and my wife can't see how to put all the groceries in such a small car ... so can the cargo area be increased please?

Lastly, the $80,000 starting price is simply obscene, and an affront to hard working folks like myself. It is so small, that it should only cost $20,000 at most. Less would be even better.

Thank you,

Jo-Shmoski

RE: Diglloyd ...

Dear sir,

I agree about the M digital camera LCD being updated.

However, being a very long time Medium Format digital user, I paid to read everything you had to say about the Leica S2, especially the focusing issues ... and upon getting the S2 camera to test found everything you said to be wrong. I wonder how much of this M critique is wrong?

Thank you,

-Marc

Open Letter to Leica M lovers:

The tide is growing into a tidal wave of commodity thinking. The M9P may be our last chance to preserve the M experience in the digital age. Think about it.

Doubt it - the sales of the M9 speak for themselves. If it ain't broke, don't fix it (incrimental high-ISO and dymanic-range improvements aside).

Hmm, someone screwed up big time when they were writing that particular contract <grin>.

Were the Voigtlander rangefinder cameras that successful? I realise they must have sold, but the only one I can ever remember seeing was near Luna Park in Sydney.

I fail to understand why people always seem to feel that the M9 needs improving. Every other thread is about "the next new camera" or, "open letter to Leica" or in this case, "ten ways..."

Am I the only one that really likes my M9? The way it is? Some days, it seems that way!

Okay, it's not perfect. But nothing has stopped me from enjoying my M9 and taking great pictures with it! Even these so-called "unusable lenses" work just fine with the help of CornerFix.

Maybe I'm just a freak, because I like my M8, too.

Carry on. ;)
