johnloumiles Posted June 8, 2011 Share #1 Posted June 8, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi I just purchased a 50mm summicron for $1000. It would seem like I have gotten a deal as the lens is in great order but I'm wondering what the Tiger Claw designation means? I can't find it anywhere online except when other people refer to the Summicron they're selling as a Tiger Claw. I have asked the seller but have not heard back as of yet, regardless I'd like to hear from some of the storied members here. Thanks

M. Valdemar Posted June 8, 2011 Share #2 Posted June 8, 2011 It refers to the protruding finger-rest on that lens.
Michael Geschlecht Posted June 8, 2011 Share #3 Posted June 8, 2011 Hello John, When the focus assist button is convex on the side away from the lens w/ grooves on it radiating out from the axis of the lens it is sometimes called a "tiger's paw". As an example: Some early 35 mm Summicrons of Generation 4. Best Regards, Michael

lct Posted June 8, 2011 Share #5 Posted June 8, 2011 Yes early 50/2 v4 # 11819 and 35/2 v4 # 11310 had a convex focus tab usually called "Tiger Claw" mostly in Asia. Welcome, dear visitor!
