LFI magazine

Hey, I have had little exposure to LFI magazine. I downloaded the one free version for ipad, but am wondering what folks think of it. Is it worthwhile and helpful? Or does it seem redundant to the gobs of information online? I have noticed that it seems to cover some interesting photographers and products, but you can't get access to peruse such closely online.

I'm probably in the minority; not a raging fan. Many eagerly look forward to each issue. I didn't renew after several years since I found the content erratic. Some issues were clearly worthwhile, while the majority didn't excite. If I had an option to purchase at local shop, I would only buy now and then.

I also experienced delays and problems from time to time with mail distribution...always eventually resolved...and others have shared similar concern. I like to hold a magazine, so the online option holds no appeal for me. Again, probably not a majority view.

On the other hand, there aren't other Leica-specific options around, so it is the best thing going in that regard.

I subscribed mainly out of curiosity. It is not bad, depends on the issue, as every magazine. I must say that I hoped for the same quality of the old Leica Fotografie, that I remember reading avidly as a kid. I bought some of the old issues, especially those of the mid-late sixties that are great and still very enjoyable to read. But LFI has some very nice features and normally I enjoy the reading.

I subscribed for a while too but eventually got fed up with it. The pix are nowhere near the quality of Leica Fotografie from the 60's referred to by myshkine and there's a lot of marketing guff in it. It has also become much more digital oriented and I'm not interested in Leica's digital cameras.

I just signed up for the free issues that come with an M9 purchase. I don't see much interesting in the free iPad issue, but will give it some time.

An OT question: does anyone know what application would be used to produce an iPad version of a magazine like this? Most page turner apps are Flash-based, but LFI mobile looks and work great.

I have subscribed to LFI for many years and witnessed many changes in content, style, quality and readability. The current offering is a nicely produced magazine with quite well-balanced content. However I personally would like less lengthy photo-essays on war and deprivation. While I accept that these are important stories, they outnumber inspirational features which I would much prefer to read. Emails suggesting improvements or changes go unanswered, which is a pity considering the informed readership.

I would also like the contributing journalists to remember who reads the magazine. In the current issue, for example, there is an intriguing ten-page feature on high-rise housing in Hong Kong without any technical data whatever apart from mention of the M8. I looked in vain for details of lenses used and wonder whether some writers understand this need. Choice of lenses is one of the most popular topics regularly discussed in this forum.

There is no competition in magazines dedicated to Leica users which reduces commercial pressures for change. The result is that I have a 'love-hate' relationship with the magazine, yet look forward to receiving it, hoping the next issue will be more balanced and more interesting than the last one!

I subscribed to this magazine for one year. Each month I would look forward to reading something in it which would justify the cost and each month I was disappointed.

At best the content was boring and usually illustrated with uninspiring images. I didn't bother to renew my subscription.

I have been a subscriber for about five years and I enjoy the magazine very much. A particular article may not interest me at the time of issue, but even years later it may hold a lot of interest for me. Such was the case for example for the issue with the new Summarit lenses - only when I acquired some of them did I read the older issue with the review and found it very worthwhile. The magazine is beautifully produced and I keep all the issues.

I have subscribed for about 8 years and agree with most if the comments made about the mag.Its good to read a magazine without most of the content advertizing products I have little or no interest in.I have just paid for another year which speaks for itself.

All photo magazines are plagued by photojournalism which is probably not the main interest of members of this forum and LFI does not escape from it!

But some technical articles are well done and interesting.
