Hood for Leica M 35mm f1.4 ASPH?

I have a 12587 hood for my 35mm f1.4 but it does not 'lock' when mounted. Is this normal? My 12547 hood for my 28mm f2 does, however, lock on the 35mm. Can I use the 12547 on the 35? It is just a tad shorter but basically the same size. (I have seen the 35mm f1.4 advertised for sale with the 12547 hood) Thanks for any assistance.

Sorry, it's been a while since I have used my Leica lenses; I've been pulled to the dark side of my Canon 5D and 1Ds Mark I, II and III for some time. I just got a M9 and had my circa 1994 lenses 6 bit coded. My goodness, what a relief for my neck! And, yes, what images!

Hi Scott :)

Wellcome to the forum and congratulation for your new M9!

The 35mm Summilux Asph you are using is a fine lens indeed.

I for one had this lens and sold it and also my 28mm Summicron is gone. I noticed that the hood of this 35mm fits well on the 28mm (and stays on snug and stable), without vignetting on the M8 and also without any problems at all on the M9, that I got later.

Remember the hood for the 35mm to be tighter but smaller in overall size, both being an advantage imo also when used on the 28mm Summicron. But I'm afraid, that's all I can tell you about lens-hoods for the 35mm LuxA.

Sold both lenses to finance a Summlux 24mm which is wonderful wide open and as sharp as it peers when stopped down. I only mention this, because the 24mm might complement well your 1.4/35mm Asph. The f:1.4 24&50mm lenses are all I need when not using the 28-35-50 (=tri :D ), which is on most of the time.

(Hopefully) knowing us better you will find out, that we are generally speaking a friendly and helpful group. But your post simply went unnoticed because you placed it in a wrong section. Either if a mod notices it, he'll move it to the right one and you find it there (with the right answer), or best repeat your question simply with a cut & paste over to the customer section.

Have a good week-end, Scott!

Best regards from Frankfurt,

Simon

PS I'm another Canon shooter here ;).

The 1Ds was my first digital camera. All my Hassi (500 CM & Xpan) and Nikon gear went for that camera with a 70-200IS on in one go at my local dealer of choice. Glad he's still around, with just another serious store in a bigger city like ours. Luckily there's a Leica specialized one, too with a beautiful gallery, but that's about it.
