Advertisement Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 Hi Joe Detam, Take a look here summarit 75 or 90 ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
giordano Posted May 30, 2011 Share #2 Posted May 30, 2011 It depends entirely on whether you prefer using a 75mm or 90mm lens for portraits. Any other differences between the lenses are trivial by comparison.

tobey bilek Posted May 30, 2011 Share #4 Posted May 30, 2011 I would use a 90 to 135 for traditional portraits. A 75 or 50 for half body shots. I dislike jamming a lens close to someone`s face. I use a 90 from 5 feet generally.

Paul Verrips Posted May 30, 2011 Share #7 Posted May 30, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Why one or the other is better ( on the M9)?
satureyes Posted May 30, 2011 Share #8 Posted May 30, 2011 I got the 90mm because I felt the 75 was too close to my 50mm and wanted a little more reach. I've been very happy with it.
lars_bergquist Posted May 31, 2011 Share #9 Posted May 31, 2011 Does anybody have compared the summarit m1:2,5/90 mm with the 2,5/75mm? Which one is better for portraits with a m9 ? Thanks Why do you ask? Leica publishes technical data about both lenses at their site (Leica Camera AG - Photography - Summarit-M-Lenses) If you don't trust your own reason, then Erwin Puts has a comprehensive survey of the Summarit lenses. See Summarit range For the subjective part of it ("which one is better for portraits with a M9?") there is a little frame preview lever on the front of the camera. By using it, you can see what field of view a 75 or a 90mm lens has. There is nothing to forbid you from using it with a live person in front of the camera. The rest is irreducible subjectivity where I cannot advise you. I can only add that if by 'portrait' you mean 'head-and-shoulders' then you have cut yourself off from most of the Western portrait tradition. Go visit a good art museum with representative works from the last six centuries. There you will see examples of group portraits, full length portraits, knee length portraits, portraits in environment – and you will find that any damn focal lenth you can mount on a Leica M will be fine for some portraits – and none will be fine for all portraits. It does all depend on what you want to do. A photograph begins not with a lens or a camera, but with a vision.
